Move to Learn April, 2019 Missile

                    Autumn Edition!

Hello all and welcome to our first newsletter for 2019! Though we've been silent, we've not been idle. This last weekend we met with three of our foundational Move to Learn Practitioners – Veronica Steer, Julia Dive and Belinda Flynn – to further discuss how our program can affect sports performance. We've been excited about the possibility of widely sharing the Move to Learn benefits into this new arena and have been making great progress towards creating a third version of our 10 Gems Program that is specifically targeted at improving sports performance. The crux of this will be exploring how the fundamental movements that are expected to be taught to our children in early school years are dependent on deeper foundational skills which, when absent or not fully developed, make the acquiring of fundamental sports skills difficult if not impossible.
Here, of course, is where we believe the Move to Learn program can play a vital role.
We will keep you updated on our progress!

                              New Practitioner for the USA!
Finally, and most excitingly, we are delighted to introduce to you our newest practitioner, Maria Simeone.

Those who attended our seminar back in August, will remember Maria’s wonderful, interactive workshop on the concept of Energy and Emotion; featuring American music, singing, and creative movement in community. She also introduced us to her Alzheimer's program.
Maria has been a Move to Learn Trainer for 2 years now and has decided to take on the Role of Move to Learn Practitioner and become our representative in North America.
Maria has been an educator and a highly acclaimed musician for over 30 years. She holds a BA with honours in Research Psychology and is published in the field of Cognition. As the creator of the Music Moves the Brain program, Maria came to us with an already deep understanding of the value and importance of movement and learning. Her skill and depth of knowledge are a rare find and she is a valuable asset to the Move to Learn family. Needless to say, we are thrilled to have her as our American ambassador.
Please read Maria’s encouraging words below, on how she found us and her thoughts on The Move to Learn program.

My Personal Journey to Move to Learn - by Maria Simeone
"I stumbled upon Move to Learn several years ago out of sheer luck! When I discovered Move to Learn I was struck by its simplicity, flexibility, and affordability. I felt strongly that 10 Gems for the Brain filled a real need in providing the immense value of neuro repatterning to the public in a most accessible and affordable way. The program also embodied the foundation of my MusicMovestheBrain program – empowering individuals with practical, organic tools for their own well-being. I also appreciated the inclusiveness of MTL which allowed for complimentary support, such as music and sound therapy. It is amazing that Barbara had the great insight to formulate all of these aspects some 40 years ago!
I first came across the world of neuro repatterning during a BrainDance summer training program with my (now) mentor Anne Green Gilbert in Seattle. It was life changing! I knew this was the “missing piece” for my children, for my work, and personal growth. However, I could not find anyone willing to train me! A few years later, I came across Move to Learn. As they say, “the teacher arrives when the student is ready.” I was so fortunate that Louise Weavers was living in Los Angeles at the time and welcomed me with warmth and generosity. Likewise, that has been my experience with the entire Move to Learn family. I’ve always felt welcomed and at home. Summer 2018, I was so blessed to be able to meet everyone face to face, share my work, and learn from everyone! From there, it was a natural progression to becoming a MTL practitioner.
Currently, I am focusing on bringing MTL to the senior population. However, I love working with all ages (in utero on up!) and especially with those in greatest need (in 2016, I introduced MTL to children/staff at Pwoje Espwa in Haiti). I am looking forward to growing the program and bringing it to the Northern Hemisphere!"
