Shop Local in 2014

Happy New Year! We trust everyone's rested (read: plumped) up after the holidays? We've eaten every last gingerbread man in the office and we're ready to move onwards and upwards. That brings us to resolutions. Whether or not you do the annual goal-setting thing, we hope you'll join us in keeping things even more local for 2014. We resolve to promote more local businesses and artisans, eat more delicious homegrown food and support more of our neighbours, charities and communities. Now doesn't that sound like a lot more fun than extra squats or cutting out cake? (Image by Diggit Shop Local Photo contest winner, Christine Roome of Sweet Memory Art)

Eat: Prime Rib Stew

"There are two bold winners for first place in comfort food: chicken noodle soup & beef stew. It's what to do with leftovers. I literally load it with the leftover veggies & meat from the meal before. The stock is so simple to make if you have the time to simmer those bones a few hours or overnight. The longer they cook, the deeper the flavour with less need for additional store bought stock, etc." ~ Janette Taylor | Get the recipe.
