Have a great spring break!

Vice President
Please join us for OYFA's Council Elections on March 19th at 11AM in OHill Forum to help us select our council for the 2016-2017 school year. In order to speak and vote in the elections, you must be a paid member! Please note: we will have food at elections!

If you would like to nominate an individual or yourself to a position, please e-mail me at You have until the night before elections (March 18th at 11:59PM) to nominate individuals. Candidates have until the day of elections (March 19th) to drop out of the running.

I would also like to clarify something I mentioned during during the meeting about running if you are not going to be present the day of elections. If you have a very particular and unavoidable set of circumstances that prevent you from being at UVA the day of elections, we are allowing you to Skype into elections to give your speech/answer Q&A/etc. Note, once again, that this is only for very special circumstances that I must approve of ahead of time. You must also give me a timeframe (of about 30 minutes) where we can Skype you in.

To those of you running, good luck! If you have any questions about the electoral procedure, please feel free to e-mail me.

Calling all artistic OYFAns!

Please follow the guidelines outlined below:
- incorporate OYFA into the shirt in some way
- 3 colors maximum
- Optional (but highly recommended): incorporate this year’s theme - Pinagmulan (“Origins”)

Thank you!

Welcome back from Spring Break! We hope everyone has been reinvigorated! As per usual, here are some interesting tidbits from The Philippines in this week's ISIP's Corner.
Big Dreams or Wild ImaginationPhilippines Aims to Become Biggest IT-BPM Market
With the support of the government and constant talents in the labor force, The Philippines appears to be very confident that it will be the world's largest market for information technology-business process management (IT-BPM). Anything is possible, but what you think? Agree or disagree?
Territorial DisputePhilippines-China Sea Dispute Seen as Long-Term Issue
There have been multiple disputes between China, Th e Philippines, Brunei, Malaysia, Taiwan, and Vietnam with regards to sovereignty over the South China Sea. China has stated that it has "indisputable sovereignty" over almost all of the sea and the islands within. However, The Philippines has been challenging such claims. Now it appears to escalate, Japan has an accord with The Philippines and the USA deployed a naval fleet recently to that location. What do you think? Should the sea be shared or entirely claimed?
US VP Visits the PIAl Gore in Surprise Visit to Haiyan ground Zero in the Philippines
Former US VP and Nobel Peace Prize Winner, Al Gore, made a surprise visit to Typhoon Haiyan Ground Zero. There he lit a candle, paying respect to those who perished. It has only been two years since the typhoon landed and devastated the island. Some of those affected areas still remain devastated. Gore is a climate change activist and will be speaking during a seminar on adapting to climate change, which will be held in the capital next week. Such an inspiration; much respect.

Well, there you have it folks. Now y'all are updated with some current events in the Philippines. Like always, if there is a specific topic you would like for us to cover, just contact us!

Also, if you are interested in running for ISIP, don't hesitate to contact Amy Zhang and/or Lawrence Moreno Dulay as well as previous ISIP chairs! Thanks!

Student Advisors

Since Council Elections are this week, Student Advisors will be holding Office Hours this Tuesday from 8-10 in Clark 156 for Council Elections Prep. We will be going over general Council duties, what elections are like, and answering any questions you may have. We both have two years of experience for going through elections, so we have a lot of tips that we want to share!

Hope to see you there!
