Hey OYFA!

Time for a Study Break!
Here's whats happening in the world of activism:
Asian Headline: How Activists in Southeast Asia Celebrated Human Rights Day
This past Thursday - Dec. 10 - was Human Rights Day. In honor of those who stand up for Human Rights, we have attached a small and interesting article that show how Southeast Asia (i.e. The Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, etc.). celebrated and commemorated the day.
Featured Filipino Activist: Kesz Valdez
Two years ago - in 2012, at the age of 13 - Kesz Valdez, who was homeless at the time, was awarded the International Children's Peace Prize for his commitment to improving the lives of his fellow street kids. Read his incredible story and what he's done in the link above. You'll want to know more!
Good luck on finals!

Hopefully finals haven't been getting the best of you all! And to those of you who have already left for break, just know we are very jealous since we're still here, studying our lives away. Cry.

Anyways, it's been quite the memorable semester with you all. We cannot express how happy we are to be able to get to know so many of you this well within only a few months. We can't wait until next semester to only laugh and have fun with you all again!!

ALSO, the first full week of school back, JANUARY 24th - 29th, is our LITTLE/BIG WEEK where the Littles show some appreciation to their wonderful Bigs since they have been doing such an amazing job guiding and taking care of their Little(s). Let's appreciate them for everything they've done! Yay!!

If you guys need someone to talk to or hangout with, you know how to reach us!! Hope you guys have a wonderful holiday and relaxing break. It's definitely been real; until next year, homies!

Featured OYFAN

Name: Alex Zarzuela

Graduation Year: 2017

Major: Sociology

What do you plan to do post-grad: Enter an accelerated nursing program and become a nurseeeee

Favorite OYFA Memory: The night before Barrio in my first year - we had trouble finding a place to practice all night, so we ended up in the parking lot and in the band room. We were all working so hard to put the show together and it was fun seeing everyone's hard work come to life the next day.

If you could have anything you wanted for Christmas, what would it be and why?

To have all my major requirements and prerequisites for nursing programs completed, so I could take the "courses you should take before you graduate" at UVA. Orrrrrr... the chance to be a 1st year again, that would be pretty cool too.

I'm really excited for Barrio! 😂
