Thank you to all parents who participated in the 2016 Satisfaction Survey.  Our Survey partners, Vividus Marketing, have analysed the results and we will be reviewing these over the coming weeks.  We will identify those areas of need expressed by our families through the survey, so that we can continue to improve the services delivered as well as enhance the spiritual, emotional and wellbeing outcomes sought from the ongoing participation of your children in the Macquarie College program.

Thank you to everyone who has nominated to volunteer some time to assist within the College in 2017.  With a variety of roles and activities needing helpers, we look forward to welcoming you all to the Volunteer Induction and Morning Tea on Wednesday 15th February.  More volunteers are also welcome and information on joining our Volunteer Roster 2017 is available
HERE.  If you have an hour or so to volunteer in our Canteen hub - particularly on Fridays - we'd love to hear from you!
Macquarie College is pleased to present Mr Nic Newling, Mental Health Speaker, who will be joining us on Tuesday 7th March for a series of informative and engaging sessions with students and staff about mental health, and building confidence to start conversations with friends, families and relevant experts to manage our mental health.  Nic will be presenting three sessions on that day, with the third for Macquarie College community members and their guests to be held in the Campus Church complex starting at 7.00pm.  This is a free event and online pre-registration will open shortly.  CLICK HERE to watch a short video about Nic's work in schools and the community.
Welcome to a new feature, the "Counsellor's Corner".  Macquarie College is pleased to welcome Mrs Janelle Tolley to the staff in 2017.  Janelle is a valued member of the extended Support Team and works part time (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays, 8am-4pm). We welcome Janelle, and encourage parents to liaise with their Class/Roll teachers or respective Heads of School regarding services which Janelle and the Support Team can provide to enhance your child's experience at Macquarie College.

Each newsletter I look forward to sharing with you information that may be of interest to our parent and carer community. Topics will change each newsletter so be sure to check in to see if the information is of interest to you.  This time I share information of particular relevance for families with children new to the school. CLICK HERE for our kindergarten families, the information featured is produced by Kids Matter and focuses on how we can best support a child with their transition to school. For families who have a children transitioning to the school from another school, the information produced by Reach Out may be of assistance, CLICK HERE to explore further. For our Senior Students, transition can be a nervous time involving relationships with new teachers and moving friendship groups. CLICK HERE to read the latest Families eNewsletter from Kids Matter focused on the return to school experience, particularly for those transitioning to high school.
I are excited to introduce a new initiative to support the sharing of information to our parent community. The Parent Information Hub is located in the Library and is a partnership with our Library staff. Building upon the existing book collection dedicated to parents for borrowing, we now have an expanded selection of reputable and informative booklets and brochures available to you free of charge. From time to time I will share with you information about featured booklets. This time, I bring your focus to a booklet published by the The Australian Government of Social Services called 'Children and Separation. A Guide for Parents'. This booklet provides insight into the impact of separation for children at various developmental stages and some helpful tips in how to best support your child through parental separation. Please pop in and have a look at this and what else is on offer.
The Thinking, Feeling, Behaving Program is an emotional education curriculum for adolescence and this year Macquarie College will introduce this program for our Year 7 cohort. Year 7 students will take part in this program once per week, starting in Term 1 Week 4. The program will continue until the end of Term 2. This program is engaging and interactive and will offer the students the opportunity to learn positive mental health concepts. Janelle Tolley, our College Counsellor, will facilitate these groups. This program is recognised by both the Kids Matter and Mind Matter mental health initiatives.

Seasons for Growth is a program that explores the impact of change in one’s life, provides opportunity for reflection of one’s life story, and supports children and young people to learn new ways to share, think about, and respond to change and loss. Our College Counsellor Janelle Tolley is a trained and experienced Seasons for Growth companion and will be running two small groups for Senior School students during Terms 1 and 2. If you feel that your child would benefit from participation (this program can be offered at Junior School level also), or that you yourself would benefit from participation in an adult version of the program, please register your future interest directly by
Emailing Janelle. This program is recognised by both the Kids Matter and Mind Matter mental health initiatives.
There was a buzz of nervous excitement in the air as 46 new Kindy students began their first day at Macquarie College. Here’s their story… "After we waved good bye to our mums and dads we had fun getting to know each other. We went on an adventure to find the library, office, canteen and playground. We met new people who will help us and we even saw Dr Youlden, the boss of the school! Our day was full of new experiences such as learning about the sound ‘s,’ drawing, colouring-in, cutting out and learning how our classroom works. The best part was making new friends. We can’t wait to come back to school for another fun day of learning!"
The Junior School (2-6) and Senior School (7-12) swimming carnivals kick off the official 2017 MC Sport program.  We're thrilled to see students take their marks and give their best in the pool and also on the pool deck while supporting their House colours; Charlton (green), Dobell (blue) and Shortland (red).   In 2016, Shortland house won the Junior School carnival, while Dobell won the Senior School carnival.  We wish all competitors the best as they participate in this year's carnivals and thank all parents for supporting their children in the MC Sport Program throughout 2017.  Parents have been sent the full details about the Swimming Carnival by email, so please make sure students are prepared for a fun day representing their sports houses.
