More Multifamily Projects Now Qualify for PECO New Home Rebates

A recent change in ENERGY STAR rules now allows four or five-story buildings with centralized domestic hot water or heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems to qualify for the ENERGY STAR Certified Homes program. This expansion means that buildings of this type now qualify for both the ENERGY STAR and Code Plus incentives tier of PECO New Home Rebates.
Previously, multifamily buildings with central HVAC or hot water systems were eligible only for the Energy Star Multifamily High Rise Program.

PECO New Home Rebates provides incentives for multifamily properties that meet ENERGY STAR Certified Homes V 3.0 or exceed current energy codes by a minimum 30 percent. Incentives for multifamily properties are provided on a per-unit basis. Learn more about builder incentives

ENERGY STAR properties with central HVAC or hot water systems are recommended to follow RESNET Guidelines for Multifamily Energy Ratings for modeling their central system(s).

Congratulations to JP Orleans!

Program builder JP Orleans was recognized on March 30 with a prestigious Synergy Award for the best energy efficient home of 2016.

The winning home, Kingston II at Spring Oak in Malvern, features high-efficiency air-source heat pumps and R-19 wall insulation. The project qualified for more than $1,700 in PECO incentives.

Awarded jointly by the Home Builders Association of Chester & Delaware Counties and the Home Builders Association of Bucks & Montgomery Counties, the Synergy Award for energy efficiency is offered exclusively to builders who meet PECO New Home Rebates program requirements.

The selection criteria also prioritize marketing techniques that focus on energy efficient building practices and builders who form partnerships that advance energy efficiency.

Project Spotlight: Awesometown

Program builder Postgreen Homes redeveloped a former industrial site to build Awesometown, the first LEED V4 Homes Platinum Certified project in Pennsylvania.
New Kensington Community Development Corporation (NKCDC) partnered with Postgreen Homes to develop 14 mixed-income properties. The more recent, market-rate homes were rated by PECO New Home Rebates as exceeding minimum energy code standards by 50 percent.

The six townhouses averaged HERS scores of 38, earning the project a combined $10,500 in incentives. Awesometown properties feature
ENERGY STAR lighting and appliances, high-efficiency insulation, and water conservation measures such as rain barrels and green roofs.
