Grow Your Tenner for Share with Localgiving Today

Localgiving's Grow Your Tenner campaign started at 10am today! So Donate £10 to Share now to double your money and make double the difference for Share.

Throughout its campaign, Localgiving will be matching one-time donations pound-for-pound for up to £10, and monthly donations of up to £10 per month for 6 months.

This means that, with Gift Aid, a one-time donation of £10 made through Localgiving.com during Grow Your Tenner will generate up to £21.55, depending on the payment method used. Meanwhile, a direct debit monthly donation of £10 per month for six months with Localgiving, will turn your £60 into £120 for Share.

So please donate to Share now and start growing those tenners to help us continue our work!

Regular monthly donations enable us to cover our running costs and plan ahead, helping us to ensure our future sustainability.

Share's wellbeing work gets £10k boost from Garfield Weston Foundation

The Garfield Weston Foundation has awarded Share £10,000 towards our wellbeing work to support students, their families and carers, and to liaise with other professionals responsible for our students' care.

This work involves carrying out initial assessments and offering guidance on care provision, as well as taking part in individual student review meetings, liaising with health and social care professionals to facilitate learning, and supporting those leaving school and in transition into adult services.

From 'fork to fork' with the help of the Olswang Green Seed Fund

Share has embarked on a new project to bring together students from our horticulture and catering courses to teach them how to grow and prepare healthy nutritious vegetables and fruit, and help them to learn the core principles of ‘fork to fork’.

The project has been made possible with the help of Project Dirt, which connects communities for social good, and is funded by the Olswang Green Seed Fund, set up by Olswang law firm as an innovative approach to being carbon neutral. This means that, following an audit of its activities such as travel, energy resources and IT equipment, Olswang decided to charge itself £10 for every tonne of carbon dioxide the company produced, and invest the funds generated on environmental projects within local communities, such as Share.

New trustee comes on Board at Share

We are very pleased to welcome Richard Callaghan, a chartered accountant and finance manager of Safer World, an international organisation working to prevent violent conflict, who recently joined Share's Board of Trustees as treasurer.

Richard spent 15 years in the commercial world with KPMG, Smithkline Beecham and other large companies, working in a range of finance roles. In 2005, he joined ActionAid International as head of finance where he worked for six years, after which he joined Safer World as finance director.

Richard has been involved in various not-for-profit organisations and was a member of the board at Rosebery Housing Association for five years. He is currently also the treasurer for the Peckham Settlement.

Richard lives in Balham, and was keen to volunteer his experience to a local charity and learn about a new charity environment.

Richard takes over the position of treasurer from Bill Morgan, who now chairs the Board of Trustees at Share. Meet Share's trustees.

Art workshop shows off Share students in a new light

Over the summer, Share students took part in a six-week art-based workshop looking at identity. As part of the course, students learned about different approaches to portraiture, creating portraits of themselves and each other, as well as recreating some classics.

They looked at portraits through the ages and their significance over the centuries, while investigating how colour works together and variations that can be achieved by altering densities of paint and water, using acrylic paints.

This project was arranged by local artist Martin Ireland who specialises in creative projects in Wandsworth.

So many places to go, so much to do with Go Anywhere, Do Anything

One thing is for sure – London is a big city and Share students are having a ball exploring every corner! With a full calendar and everyone bursting with new ideas for what to do and where to go, our Go Anywhere, Do Anything team are being kept on their toes! As with much of Share's work, projects such as Go Anywhere, Do Anything just couldn't achieve what they do without the kind support of our volunteers. Holly, a social buddy with Go Anywhere, Do Anything, has been volunteering with Share since July and has been reflecting on her time with us. Read about what inspired Holly to volunteer, her experience of the project so far and some advice she has for others who might be thinking of signing up as a social buddy.

The Go Anywhere, Do Anything project offers people with learning disabilities an opportunity to go anywhere and do anything, and they get a say in what they want to do with their friends and peers. Visit Share's website to find out more about the project.

Keron Toomey – remembered with affection

Everyone at Share was saddened to hear that one of our students, Keron Toomey, passed away suddenly at the end of September.

Keron first came to Share in 2006, and studied horticulture, and art and crafts, at Share. She loved being in the Share Garden and, more recently, loved going out and about with our Go Anywhere, Do Anything project, whether it be out nightclubbing or visiting Kew Gardens. Always full of fun, she loved playing tricks on both staff and fellow students!

Our thoughts are with you and your family, Keron. We remember you with happy memories and great affection.

Keron's funeral will take place on Tuesday 21st October 2014 at 1.15pm.

Share training pathways for disabled people

Share's training is aimed at disabled adults, including those with learning disabilities, physical/sensory impairments, autism, and mental health needs.

As well as accredited courses in life and basic skills, digital skills, catering and horticulture, we run short courses in baking, digital skills for life and musicianship.

We also run a Getting Ready for Work Programme, to teach students about the various aspects of searching for and securing employment. This is a bespoke programme which can be delivered at Share or for groups elsewhere.

Flexible and targeted training pathways mean that there is something to suit everyone in terms of personal interests and aspirations, whether those are related to personal development or employment.

Share traineeships

Share's traineeships support young disabled adults, aged between 16 and 25 years old, to gain skills to help them into paid employment or an apprenticeship in horticulture or catering.

The aim of the six-month programme is to ensure that trainees gain recognised qualifications in English and maths, as well as practical qualifications in horticulture or catering.
