First of all, I want to wish everyone a belated Happy Thanksgiving. This is my favorite holiday as it represents a time to strengthen connections with family. As I write to my extended IFMA family, I want to make sure you take stock on how we may continue to strengthen our connections with you. As an IFMA member (over 20 years), my engagement in various committees is where I’ve unlocked value to contribute to my success as a professional. A few examples are:
- Serving as a Education Committee Chair - I leveraged this experience to ensure I was aware of the evolving tools an FM requires to remain current in our industry.
- Serving as a Sponsorship Committee member – I was able to connect with firms and people that want the FM profession to grow and improve. As a self proclaimed introvert, it allowed me to get out of my comfort zone and meet new people to expand my network.
Whatever role you may have in your career, it is imperative that you develop your ‘internal board of directors’, challenge yourself, and develop professional contacts you may call upon when required.
Reviewing last month, we had an activity packed November leading us into the holiday season. We will continue to work with the mayor’s office (landlord/tenant sustainability challenge), schools (mentorships and educational awareness), and other chapters to produce educational programs, panel discussions and special events for our members. Considering these opportunities, please take time to check our website to find what things may interest you.
Interface hosted our Commercial Renovations in NYC Toolbox Luncheon on Thursday, November 3. This seminar featured co-founders & partners at NDNY, Mary K Chandrahasan and Ananth R Sampathkumar who presented on the processes involved in undertaking a renovation or interior fit out. On Monday, November 10, Humanscale hosted the November Members Only Networking Breakfast and on Wednesday, November 16, Awards for Excellence Nominees joined the IFMA NYC Executive Board and Awards Committee at Knoll for an evening celebrating their nominations for the Awards for Excellence.
Registration is open for our Annual Holiday Party on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at HB Burger from 6:00PM-8:00PM. Registration is also open for our Annual Awards for Excellence Dinner at the Pierre Hotel on Thursday, January 26, 2017 from 6:00PM-10:00PM where we will announce the Awards For Excellence winners.
