LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

Dear Members, Dear Members,
 
Happy new year and Kung Hei Fat Choy!  According to the Chinese astrological calendar, January 28, 2017 marks the start of the year of the rooster.   As we all begin this new year, our IFMA NYC Board are planning what we want to deliver for our members and reflect on what we could have done better than 2016.  Please continue to send us your feedback on programs and networking events.

We will continue to work with the mayor’s office (landlord/tenant sustainability challenge), schools (mentorships and educational awareness), and other chapters to produce educational programs, panel discussions and special events for our members. Considering these opportunities, please take time to check our website to find what things may interest you.

On Thursday, January 12 Avison Young hosted the Monthly Networking Breakfast with over 50 members in attendance. On Wednesday, January 18 the Sustainability Committee hosted the ‘Scaling Smart – Optimizing Space for Flexibility and Mobility’ event at Interface where attendees learned how incorporating certain building products, furniture and technology can support a workspace that is easily adjustable to meet employee needs. The IFMA NYC Awards for Excellence Dinner was held at the Pierre Hotel on Thursday, January 26 with over 400 industry members in attendance. Click here to view the winners. 

The ‘Overview of the NYC Retrofit Accelerator’ at the Switzer Group on Wednesday, February 8 from 12:00 PM – 1:30 PM will feature presentations aimed to help owners and operators of privately-owned buildings in New York City increase the value and sustainability of their properties through energy and water upgrades. Also, this month’s Members Only Networking Breakfast will be hosted by Avison Young on Thursday, February 9 from 8:15 AM-9:45 AM. The ‘Engagement Injection: Sound Practical Advice on Healthy Collaboration’ at Humanscale on Wednesday,  February 22 from 5:30 PM-8:00 PM will include a  workshop geared to help real estate professionals, business world, government officials and healthcare professionals with complex problem-solving through collaboration.

Mentorship Program:

Mentorship Program: IFMA New York City is seeking mentors to work with Facility Management students! For more information and to sign up visit our website.

Communications Committee:

Coming soon – Stuart’s Corner! This will be our monthly column with Stuart Goldberg of SiriusXM answering all your pressing facilities management questions!

Sustainability Committee:

The CUNY School of Professional Studies is now offering a free Building Operating Certification Training for IFMA New York City Members. These 8-week courses are offered during the day once per week (9:00 AM – 12:00 PM) and also in the evening twice per week (6:00 PM – 9:00 PM). IFMA Cares Committee:

Since January 2014, IFMA Cares has raised approximately $37,500 for the following charitable organizations:

  • American Foundation for Suicide Prevention: $1,500
  • Dress for Success: Two clothing drives
  • IFMA Foundation: $20,000
  • Fraternite Notre Dame Toy Drive: approximately 650 toys
  • St. Jude Children's Research Hospital: $16,000
