NOTES ON THESEASON
It's happening. Fall is here. It's been official for the last month, but here in New Orleans, we are just noticing its effects. Our plants are still flowering, the leaves are still on the trees, but the air has a slightly brisker feel, we can use a light quilt at night, and we don't need a fan in every window.
This season is traditionally one for harvesting the fruits of our Spring and Summer labor, both in the garden and metaphorically.
It is a time for noticing where we have put our energies over the last year and determining if it was worth it, if we need to redirect our attentions elsewhere, if we want to continue on in the direction that we are headed.
Fall is also the season to slow down and celebrate the fruits of our labor with loved ones.
How can you do this in your own life?
Where can you find time to slow down and take stock? What preparations do you have for the months ahead? Have you stocked your Fall Medicine Cabinet in preparation for common Winter illnesses?
Perhaps, this is a time for you to go harvest Elderberries and make the syrup recipe below. Or to gather the last of the peppers from your garden and prepare a batch of warming Fire Cider to kick your immune system into gear when it is needed.
Join us at an upcoming class to learn how to prepare various plant based remedies to put up now in order to keep you healthy throughout the Winter.
And most importantly, gather with friends and savor the last warmth, the sunshine, the long days before we move into Winter.
FALL CLASS SCHEDULE IsUP!!!
HI FRIENDS, WE HAVE A LOT OF GREAT CLASSES AND EVENTS COMING UP THIS FALL THAT WE ARE EXCITED TO SHARE WITH YOU! You may notice that we have way less classes this season than in seasons past. This is on purpose as we decide to focus our efforts on that very important word in our shop name:COMMUNITY. In alignment with Maypop's mission and philosophy, Jen & Rachael have decided to spend this Fall reconfiguring what we as herbalists can offer to this lovely city that we call home.
All of our classes this season are with that in mind. We will be partnering up with various community businesses to offer sliding scale or free classes that are geared toward educating as many future herbalists as possible. We aim to support our community in taking their healthcare into their own hands so that we can grow stronger and healthier as a while city. Check our website for more info on our classes.
We hope to see you soon!

DONNA CAIRE'S UPCOMING CLASSES
Donna is back at it with exciting classes this Fall!
Here's an excerpt of her offerings from her newsletter:
"October 22-23: Abdominal Massage for
(Louisiana massage therapists obtain 12 CEU's, but any body worker can take) $300 http://www.regenerationsprings.com/AbdominalMassageforBodyWorkers.htm
This class is designed to help you visualize the abdomen and its inner organs. You will learn how to touch for release of restriction and increase the flow of nourishing blood, lymph and nerve to vital parts of our being. We will address how this beneficial work also affects other tensions in the body. It's an informative, fun class that gives you a protocol to work on the abdomen, and increases your comfort level in touching. November 12, 2016: Body Listening in 3D: Envisioning What and How We Touch:
The Cranium $150 plus $25 for full color manual
The series will consist of 1 day classes that will specifically focus on the 4 pressure systems of the body: the cranium, the thorax, the abdomen and the pelvis. These classes can be taken singly or out of sequence. We will explore what lies under the skin in each of these areas, and discover how this depth of informed massage touch affects the physiology of various parts of the body.
The first class will be on the cranium."

More on the class from Donna:
"In this two day class Matthew Wood will share the spiritual nature of plants that he has learned, intuited, and experienced based on over 30 years of immersion in the world of plants and their teachings. He will paint a picture of his use of the "inner medical license" provided by nature through the doctrine of signatures- using what a plant looks like, how it is used by animals, their spirit signatures- and lead us on plant journeys to show the interconnections with their healing."
Early bird fee of $200 is available until mid November, and after that it will be $225.
The class will be held at Regeneration Springs and size will be limited.
