PGI Joins International Climate Coalition

Project Gaia has become a Partner of the Climate and Clean Air Coalition to Reduce Short-Lived Climate Pollutants (CAC). PG was invited to take on the role of Actor in the Coalition by lead partners Nigeria and the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves.

The CAC grew out of the efforts of the governments of Bangladesh, Canada, Ghana, Mexico, Sweden and the United States and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), to treat short-lived pollutants as a collective challenge. The CAC is an initiative to support action in the fields of public health, food and energy security and climate.

PGI to Present Ethanol MicroDistillery Feasibility Study at 2014 World Bioenergy Conference
June 3-4, 2014 – Jönköping, Sweden

PGI Executive Director Harry Stokes presented the research paper entitled "Micro distilleries plus Stoves: A Distributed Energy Strategy that Solves Supply and Demand" at the World Bioenergy 2014. The study was led by a team at the Duke Nicholas School for the Environment combines PGI and external research, and is based on the PGI community stoves and fuel model.

In the paper, we examine micro-scale distillation in the Kenyan rural setting using sweet sorghum as our proposed crop. We examine the financial feasibility and provide a pro-forma analysis of the cost to make ethanol on a microscale. The models are based on a clean stove-fuel market for ethanol, owned and operated by local farmers.

PGI ED Harry Stokes was honored with the 2013 World Bioenergy Award for his leadership in the biofuels sector. Read the press release and his interview here.
