Dr Rosie King joins Let’s Talk About Sex conference
Internationally acclaimed sex therapist, educator and author Dr Rosie King has joined the impressive line-up of speakers at the Let's Talk About Sex conference in ‪Melbourne this September.

Memory Walk & Jog – Register NOW for Geelong and Bendigo!

After the huge success of last year's inaugural event, Alzheimer's Australia Vic is excited to be expanding the Memory Walk & Jog series throughout Victoria. Registrations are now open for Geelong and Bendigo, with Mornington Peninsula, Melbourne and Albury/Wodonga to follow soon.

Parliamentary Friends of Dementia

On Thursday 11 June we held a Parliamentary Friends of Dementia event at Parliament House in Melbourne. We launched a white paper on dementia-friendly communities at the event that can be viewed by clicking here

A Trek to Remember – Places still available!

This October, we will be sending a group of community fundraisers to trek in ‪Nepal’s Pokhara region to raise money for Alzheimer’s Australia Vic.

After the devastating earthquakes in Nepal earlier this year, we hope this trek will play a small role in supporting their tourism industry.

A Night To Remember

At the end of May we hosted our 2015 fundraising gala dinner A Night to Remember, which raised in excess of $100,000. A great night was had by all!

State Trustees partnership

To coincide with World Elder Abuse Day, we launched a partnership with State Trustees.

The partnership will focus on educating professionals to work more effectively with older Victorians who are living with dementia, in order to help identify and prevent financial elder abuse. Read more about it here

HAND video premiere

We recently launched three unique films to support people living with HIV and HIV-Associated Neurocognitive Disorders (HAND).

The online videos, produced in partnership with Living Positive Victoria, include general information about HAND, information for health professionals, and information for people living with HIV about how to reduce risk and achieve better health outcomes.

Sebastian Terry raises $100k for Alzheimer's Australia Vic

Congratulations and a massive THANK YOU to Sebastian Terry at 100 Things for raising an incredible $100k for Alzheimer's Australia!!! As part of his fundraising efforts, Sebastian even spent 24 hours on a treadmill.

A remarkable achievement that will make a huge difference to the lives of people living with ‪dementia.

Living Positively with Dementia seminar – Wangaratta

Join us on August 6 for the 16th Biennial Dementia Seminar, previously known as Biennial Benalla Dementia Seminar. Presented by Alzheimer’s Australia Vic, Living Positively with Dementia is a seminar for professionals, people with a diagnosis of dementia, their family and carers.

Our latest series of Dementia Learning Guides for July to December 2015 is tailored to meet the learning needs of your sector: Residential Aged Care Services, Disability Services, Health Services, Community Support Services and Community Awareness.

Purposeful Activities For People With ‪Dementia

Our recently launched Purposeful Activities For People With ‪Dementia is a ‪Montessori-based video resource developed for aged care, dementia care staff, people living with dementia, their families and carers.

Thanks to our partners Baptcare Southaven Day Centre in Bentleigh and Manningham Centre Grevillea House in Doncaster, who were instrumental in the development process.

Posterior Cortical Atrophy Support Group Pilot Program

Alzheimer’s Australia Vic is running a pilot support group program for people living with Posterior Cortical Atrophy (PCA) and their family and friends, which will allow access to specialist information, the exchange of both helpful professional and personal information and advice, and the opportunity for peer support between people with a diagnosis and their family and friends.

Kindness and Generosity Survey

Researchers at the University of Tasmania are conducting a survey of informal or formal carers, older people or people who are living with dementia, to better understand the value and role of kindness in caring.

They would like to hear your stories of kindness and generosity and seek to understand your views on kindness as part of the caring process.
