"Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up."
Proverbs 12:25 (NIV)
Dear Friends and Family,
Where do we get the 'kind word' we need when our heart is weighed down with anxiety; sometimes even debilitating anxiety?
I can't think of a better place than from the Word of God. The Word of God is a pure spring water to a dry and parched soul.
Do these kind words touch you:
"No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life.
As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you."
Joshua 1:5 (NIV)
or
"Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,"
Romans 8:1 (NIV)
When the flesh is weak, anxiety drives out belief in these promises, and as a result will always take from us more than we can give. Believing these promises serve as an anchor to your soul.
When anxiety is running its course, we find ourselves facing struggles in ways that provoke yet another series of difficult emotions...emotions such as shame and anger.
As we prepare for the winding down of summer, entering into new seasons where oftentimes our mood can shift like shifting sand, we need support to help us along the way.
Below are a few resources I advise many individuals and families. Anger: Calming the Heart and Anxiety: Knowing God's Peace.
Both of these 31-Day devotional resources are full of wisdom and solid biblical counsel. I advise folks to not rush through the devo; rather, read a day, then take a few days to think upon it, meditate and talk it out with a friend.
You will notice 3 FREE Chapters in case you want to try before you buy.
As well, below are three FREE articles from CCEF, a trusted resource for biblical counseling. These articles are on the topic of shame. I highly encourage reading these articles. If you or someone you know struggles with shame, these will point to Jesus in very enriching ways.
We cannot fast track spiritual growth, so let the Spirit do its refining work one day at a time.
