Please READ THIS FULL race update. It's jam-packed with all the information you'll need for a successful race this Saturday. If you have any last minute questions please email our staff at and we'll do our best to get back to you ASAP.

PARKING: Last year several folks parked along HWY 89 in no parking areas and received a $100 ticket. Please don't let this happen to you.

  • On Race Day Parking is only available at the Sugar Pine State Park Camping overflow lot 1/2 mile north of the main lakeside venue.
    • There is a paved path 1/2 mile long that connects the overflow parking area to the main venue which is easily walkable.
    • SHUTTLE: There is a shuttle between the overflow parking and the main venue. This is available for anyone.
  • When checking in the day prior to your event you will receive a temporary 30-minute parking pass that will allow you to park for free while picking up you registration materials.
  • Please plan on buying a parking pass at event check for the day(s) you are participating so you will not have to take time to purchase the morning of the event.
  • Please don't try to park at the Lakeside Venue of Sugar Pine Point State Park on event morning!


  • Venue: The Lake Tahoe Open Water Swim will take place off the main beach at Sugar Pine Point State Park just north of the pier.
  • Swim Start:  Please pay attention to the signs directing you to the swim start and announcements from the announcer. The start will be in front of the of the historic boathouse building.
  • Packet Pickup: You can CHECK-IN on Friday evening from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm OR on Saturday morning prior to the race from 6:30 am to 7:30 am at the group of check-in tents at Ed’Zberg Sugar Pine State Park. We encourage you to check-in Friday evening if at all possible. [MAP LINK] Please also note: All participants are required to show photo ID in order to pick up their packet. We cannot permit a friend/family member to pick up your packet for you. Please do not forget your ID. It will be required. Click here for the SCHEDULE.
  • Important Note: The Lake Tahoe Sprint Triathlon starts at 7:30 AM at this same venue. Plan accordingly to arrive early, pay attention!
  • Timing Chip: Make sure you also receive your timing chip at check-in.
  • Water Temperature Update: The Lake Tahoe Water temperature was recently recorded at 69 degrees. Wetsuits are optional.
  • Free Open Water Swim Clinic: 6:00 PM Friday, August 24 with Jeff Pearson of Boost Swimming
  • Race Briefing and Q&A Session: There will be a race briefing on Saturday morning 20 minutes prior the race on the beach. 
  • Post Event Beer and BBQ - Every participant over 21 will receive a complimentary beer from Lagunitas. All participants will also receive the post-race BBQ included with your entry fee.
  • Dogs - Dogs are allowed on leash only and only on Pavement
  • Wetsuit/Non-Wetsuit - Be sure your entry status is correctly noted as wetsuit or non-wetsuit

  • Swim Distances: 
    - 0.5 mile course is two right turns and back to the finish
    - 1.2 mile course is three right turns and then one left turn back to the finish
    - 2.4 mile course is twice around the 1.2 mile course
  • Swim Course: All courses start just north of the pier. You'll stand shin deep looking due east across 13 miles of Lake Tahoe. Large orange and yellow buoys mark your route. The water is clear and you will see deep down into Big Blue and when you take a breath notice the scenic shoreline, pines and mountain peaks.
