Welcome to the second edition of Mingalabar, the British School Yangon’s photo newsletter. Here we are sharing some highlights, both in school and more recently, remotely, through our Virtual School Experience. The positivity, creativity and resilience shown by all staff and students over the past few weeks has thus far been overwhelming and it gives me great pride to be a part of our BSY Community.
An exciting start to the month saw BSY celebrate World Book Week, a favourite amongst both staff and students! Throughout the week students took part in many games, activities, competitions and of course the fancy dress finale: ‘dress as a character’ day, which saw a fantastic turnout from the whole school, with a lot of effort going into the costumes, so well done all!
As part of World Book Day celebrations, parent volunteers Sujita, Sander and Aya, kindly delivered a book upcycle workshop, inspiring us with a wide range of ideas on how to give a new life to cherished, but a little damaged books! Thank you, ladies, for your continued support. In addition, the WBD book Exchange was extremely successful, all remaining books & money raised to be donated to the Yankin Children Hospital. Parents have also been playing a key role in developing a community project to reduce burning in our neighbouring fields; more on this in our next edition.
What a fantastic response we’ve had to our Nord Anglia Virtual School Experience! It’s been an absolute joy seeing the pictures and videos of students engaging in this new way of schooling. Now more than ever we fully appreciate the benefits of our global community and network of 66 schools worldwide, with not only BSY teachers, but a team of over 9,000 teachers closely collaborating and sharing best practice globally, to ensure all our students receive the best possible personalised experience wherever they are in the world.
We are liaising with government officials and as soon as we have information about school reopening, we will let you know. In the meantime, please do keep sending in your rainbows (this beautiful one comes from Miss and Mrs O'Callaghan), photographs and other virtual school highlights to and follow us on Facebook and Instagram to see regular updates and highlights from our virtual school.
