The Ins and Outs of Joint Venture Agreements Webinar

Thursday, September 25
1:00 - 2:00 pm ET
Presenters:  Pam Mazza and Jon Williams, Piliero Mazza

Joint ventures are a very useful tool to gain a competitive advantage and provide a winning solution for government contracts. However, to take full advantage of this tool, you need to understand how to best form and operate a joint venture.

There are many decisions that go into a joint venture, such as the type of legal entity to use, the management structure, and whether the joint venture should have its own employees. In addition, when the joint venture pursues set-aside contracts, you need to be mindful of SBA’s affiliation rules as well as the special rules that apply depending on the type of set-aside contract at issue.

Join Pam Mazza and Jon Williams for this webinar to learn more about rules governing joint ventures for federal procurements. Topics and questions to be addressed during the webinar include:
  • What is a joint venture?
  • Advantages and drawbacks of using a joint venture
  • What legal form to use – partnership or LLC?
  • Management structure and labor (populated vs. unpopulated)
  • Drafting the joint venture agreement
  • SBA’s affiliation rules and specific joint venture requirements for the set-aside programs
All attendees will receive a copy of the presentation, a sample teaming agreement and teaming checklist.

The First Step in Creating a Persuasive Presentation

By: Mike Parkinson
Billion Dollar Graphic Blog
The presentation process I teach is called U.S.E.—Understand, Summarize and Explain. Looking at the first step (Understand) there are three core elements: audience, need, and requirements (if applicable).

To be persuasive, our presentation must resonate with the audience. To do so, we want to empathize with them. If the audience waved a magic wand, what would be the perfect outcome (for them)? A presenter that understands their audience has an advantage. The more we know about our audience, the more persuasive our presentation.

After Eight Years: Small Business Contracting Goals Finally Met

Federal government contracting made national headlines when the 2013 Small Business Federal Procurement Scorecard was announced at the Goddard Space Flight Center, in Greenbelt. The results for fiscal 2013 showed that the federal government met its small business federal contracting goal of 23% for the first time since 2005. This translates to $83.1 billion in contracts awarded to small businesses nationwide.

Every two years, the Small Business Administration (SBA) negotiates prime and subcontracting goals with federal agencies, then issues grades based on those goals. Prime and subcontracting goals for federal agencies’ scorecards include goals for small businesses, women-owned small businesses, service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses, small disadvantaged businesses and small businesses located in HUBZones (Historically Underutilized Business Zones).
