I am launching another art project novelty business website thing! Why? Feminism. Why feminism? Maybe because last month I went to the 3% Conference, or because I recently met Tavi Gevinson who was so articulate and self-aware and it heartened me that the next generation has already figured out some things that I had to struggle through. Or, maybe it's because I just had a birthday and getting older reveals the riddle between accepting things as they are and the driving desire for change.

There have been times when I ardently identified with the f word, accompanied by years where it felt very far away and irrelevant. But, life seems to move in a spiral, coming full-circle repeatedly. And I've found myself again excited (one might say passionate) about a collective commitment to the betterment of humanity. For me, feminism is the space to negotiate the how and why of that transformation.

If you're decidedly NOT for feminism (or filled with ambivalences and frustrations), that's okay—feminism is still for you. Conceiving new gender norms, correcting power imbalances, honoring and respecting the feminine, practicing compassion... these make room for all people to be their most vibrant, integrated selves.

A movement is only composed of people moving. To feel its warmth and motion around us is the end as well as the means. â€”Gloria Steinem

In honor of my renewed esprit de corps, I made some little cards and a website and now you too can be a Card-Carrying Feminist. These small editions are thoughtfully printed and nicely packaged, for your enjoyment. They are at press right now, available for preorder and shipping in the next couple of weeks.

If you're wanting to think more about feminism (or, what my friend Lisa calls feminine-ism) here are some favorite reads:
• Feminism Is For Everybody by Bell Hooks
• Gender Trouble by Judith Butler
• Wild Feminine by Tami Kent
• How Should A Person Be? by Sheila Heti
• The Laugh of the Medusa by Hélène Cixous
• Rookie Magazine

In this week of thankfulness I am thinking about books and cars and airplanes and mail and camera phones and the internet and all the innovations that allow us to connect with one another through space and time. Look at us! Here we all are, together.
Happy holidays to you and yours, friends.
Begin within.
