Miss Dawn’s Class News
“Give thanks to the Lord for he is good. His love endures forever.”
I wanted to begin by saying thank you to everyone who donated items for our Halloween party. I know it is not easy to have to miss out on such special events, I will continue to share pictures and videos on the dojo app in hopes of filling a little bit of that void.
As you may know, November is a busy and fun-filled month for all of us at First St. John’s! We’re looking forward to our Thanksgiving feast, and are excited to prepare a delicious meal. This year due to covid we will not invite guests to our feast, however we will still continue the tradition with the children and put on a classroom feast.
To prepare for the feast, the children will be doing a lot of cooking this month. We will be preparing Stone Soup and yummy pumpkion bread! The children truly enjoy participating in cooking projects. I am sure it will be delicious!
Along with the multiple activities we will be doing in preparation for the feast, the children will be busy learning about the pilgrims and Native Americans at the first Thanksgiving. We will talk about giving thanks to our friends, family, and especially to God. Our dramatic play area will be transformed into a Native American homestead. We will set up a tee pee and the children can fish and pretend to live off the land. Some of our art projects this month will be Indian corn, turkeys, pumpkin pie art, Native American headbands, and placemats. At the writing center, we will be moving along in our workbooks with the letters U,C and O.
As part of our science and stem activity the children will be building turkeys out of blocks and feathers. We will conduct a fun experiment with some popcorn and have a mayflower boat building challenge.
Before we know it Christmas will be here, by the end of November the children will start to learn their Christmas songs in preparation for our Christmas.
Again thank you for all you do! We truly appreciate your kindness and support. I hope everyone has a safe and blessed Thanksgiving.
