HONG KONG: Jazz Summer Festival 2016
Presenter: Hong Kong Big Band Jazz Federation | Sponsor: U.S. Consulate Hong Kong and Macau / General Education Unit of the University of Hong Kong
I will present workshops and concerts for the first time in Hong Kong during my short residency! On the June 18 weekend I will conduct two open rehearsals with Taka Hirohama and the Saturday Night Jazz Orchestra (SNJO).
On Thursday, June 23, I will conduct SNJO to present a program about my journey of jazz and big band music, which include music by Mendoza, Mintzer, Sussman, and yours truly. We will also present J-Pop tunes and three of my enka (æ¼”æŒ) arrangements (Touch, Winding Road & å¤œæ¡œãŠä¸ƒ)! I will also be the MC for the June 21 & 22 concerts.

A joint venture project between Guo Yazhi, one of the best Chinese wind players on the planet, and Alan Chan, who brings an "unique tonal personality" (Kirk Silsbee/DownBeat Magazine) to the LA big band scene. This concert features a program that is inspired by the Silk Road, weaving between orchestration and spontaneity, and combines the essence not only of the culture of East and West, but also Jazz.
