EFP Virtual: calendar of forthcoming events

‘Early bird’ deadline for EuroPerio10 registration is fast approaching

EuroPerio10 logo THE DEADLINE for early registration for the EuroPerio10 congress – with a substantial discount of 35% compared to onsite booking – is nearing.
Booking by March 2 means that members of EFP-affiliated national societies of periodontology pay €565 compared with the €725 regular fee and the €870 late or onsite fee.
The fees for non-EFP members are €725 (early), €870 (regular), and €990 (late/onsite), and the respective fees for dental hygienists are €415, €520, and €645, while those for students, dental assistants, and nurses are €275, €330, and €395.
EuroPerio10 takes place in Copenhagen, Denmark, from June 15 to 18, offering a wide range of presentations, live surgeries, debates, and other events involving the world’s leading researchers and clinicians in periodontology and implant dentistry.
More than 130 speakers from over 30 countries will be taking part in the main programme, which features a wide variety of formats – including live surgery, debates, interactive sessions, video sessions, and symposia – and sessions tailored for different audiences from academics and specialists to clinicians and hygienists.
Several sessions will be devoted to the EFP S3-level clinical practice guideline for the treatment of periodontitis stages I-III and the forthcoming guideline on the treatment of stage IV of the disease.
Registration includes access to the entire scientific programme (including sponsor sessions), all conference materials, admissions to the exhibition, attendance at the opening and welcome receptions and official coffee breaks, as well as a certificate of attendance (including reference to CPD credits), and a public-transportation ticket valid from June 15 to 18.

Personalised medicine is focus of next EuroPerio Series session on February 14

THE SIXTH EuroPerio Series online-education session will feature a top line-up of experts addressing one of the emerging areas of importance in periodontal and peri-implant care – personalised medicine.
"Personalised medicine in periodontal and peri-implant diseases: how will personalised medicine help our patients?" takes place on Monday 14 February, from 18.00 to 20.00.
Chaired by Bruno Loos, professor of periodontology at ACTA in the Netherlands (pictured), the session will feature contributions from Niki Moutsopoulos (NIDCR/NIH, USA) on the host response, Egija Zaura (ACTA) on the microbiome, and Mariano Sanz (Complutense University of Madrid, Spain) on the use of personalised medicine in the management of periodontal diseases.
Registration for the session costs €35, but it is free for people who have alerady registered for EuroPerio10.

EVENTS: The EFP's International Perio Master Clinic, scheduled to take place in León, Mexico on February 25 and 26, has been postponed until 2023 because of uncertainty over the Covid pandemic and the possibility of changes to travel regulations. In letters to faculty and professionals who had registered for the event, congress chair Alejandro García and scientific chair Anton Sculean said that although regulations in Mexico still allow meetings to take place and international travel is possible, “we do not have sufficient clarity about what the situation will be like by the end of February.” A new date for the meeting will be announced soon.

GUM HEALTH DAY 2022: The slogan for this year’s awareness day on May 12 will be “Treat Your Gums”. Event co-ordinator Moritz Kebschull said that "apart from our ‘normal’ gum-health awareness message that is similar every year (early detection, sequelae of periodontitis, etc), we will focus more than before on the intervention part. The motto is ‘Treat Your Gums’, both from an intervention and from a well-being perspective.” Prof Kebschull added that the campaign would “point towards our world-leading classification and guideline work and emphasize the important role of well-informed clinicians.”

JCP DIGEST: Which is the better approach to restoring function and aesthetics in two-teeth gaps in posterior areas with short implants: two adjacent implants or a single implant with a cantilever? The latest edition of EFP reserarch summary JCP Digest investigates.

PRIZES: Thirteen submissions from periodontists in nine countries have been made for the Jaccard/EFP Research Prize in Periodontology, which will be awarded at  EuroPerio10 in Copenhagen in June 2022.
