2018 Budget consolidates existing commitments
On Monday, the Chancellor delivered the Government’s annual Budget. For science and research, the Chancellor announced £1.6 billion for R&D, of which £55 million is thought to be new money.
Nobel Prize-winners warn of Brexit impact on science
Last week, 35 European Nobel Prize-winning scientists sent a joint letter to the Prime Minister and President of the European Commission calling for the closest possible post-Brexit cooperation between the UK and EU. 
Patient and public involvement: from proving to improving
This week a special issue on patient and public involvement in dementia research, co-edited by Alzheimer’s Society, was published in SAGE journals. This issue includes 11 open access articles co-authored by researchers and people affected by dementia.

CaSE sets out projection for R&D spending to reach 2.4% of GDP 
CaSE has published a one page briefing setting out the scale of public and private investment needed to reach the Government's target of total R&D spending reaching 2.4% of GDP on R&D by 2027. 
Partnerships between patient advocacy groups and industry
Covance has partnered with the Rare Advocacy Movement to develop a web-based survey to capture feedback from leaders of patient advocacy groups across a wide variety of diseases. Their goal is to better understand the diversity of patient advocacy groups and their perspectives on working with industry.

IP 101 – Understanding the basics
