Other destinations in the world might have arches, or lakes, or canyons, but none have them all on display like Grand Junction does. The western side of Colorado is unique due to its contrasting landscapes nestled into one area: Colorado National Monument, known as the mini Grand Canyon; Grand Mesa with 300 lakes on the world's largest flat-top mountain; and Rattlesnake Arches, the second-most concentration of natural arches in the world - it's Nature's Trifecta! This trio of naturally formed geographical wonders is unmatched. Grand Junction is lucky enough to be at the center of them all, so come visit!
From towering red rock formations to deep canyon walls, explore Colorado National Monument, affectionately called the Heart of the World. Located just 10 minutes from Downtown Grand Junction, the Monument is part of the National Park Service (NPS). Its jaw-dropping views are easily accessible at striking overlooks along scenic Rim Rock Drive. For hiking enthusiasts, there are over 43 miles of hiking trails where majestic wildlife is commonly sighted by visitors.
The Mini-Grand Canyon!
With over 300 alpine lakes, miles of OHV and hiking trails, and four seasons of outdoor pursuits, discover the world's largest flat-top mountain, which is only 45 minutes from Grand Junction! The Grand Mesa is one of nature's greatest accomplishments, and it shines through in every season. Spring is vibrant with wildflowers, summer brings cool air and boating out on the water, fall glows with golden aspens, and winter is ripe for skiing and snowmobiling. The Grand Mesa is proof that Mother Nature really does play favorites.
The World's Largest Flat-top Mountain!
Rounding out Nature's Trifecta (literally) are the arches in Rattlesnake Canyon. Standing proud with the title of the second-largest concentration of natural arches in the world, Rattlesnake Arches is nature's way of proving how powerful, yet delicate, its landmarks can be. The arches are often described as "magical" and "one of the coolest hikes I've ever done in Colorado," by visitors who have hiked the area. The trailhead is less than an hour from Grand Junction and the most famous arch is within one mile from the upper trailhead. Bonus - there are no crowds like you experience in Utah.
