Thomas Perry Recommends . . .

Since we are currently only able to ship new, unsigned books directly from our distributor (what with Coronavirus keeping nonessential businesses shuttered in NYC), we reached out to a few of our friends to ask their suggestions for those hunkered down in a state of social isolation.

**Note: Older titles that are still in print may lag, since Ingram's warehouse is oftentimes not as comprehensive as our own shelves. New titles (featured with images below) should ship right away.

Here's what Thomas Perry, the Edgar Award-winning author of
The Butcher's Boy and the Jane Whitefield series, came up with:

"Here are a few of my favorite thrillers and mysteries. "

"Martin Cruz Smith's Gorky Park.  Great detective stuff and beautiful writing.  I have faith that the other Arkady Renko books are wonderful too.  I have Tatiana and The Siberian Dilemma and will get to them before long."

"Patrick Hoffman’s The White Van. A very good young writer. I’d also recommend Every Man a Menace."

"I remember the first Lawrence Block novel I read was Eight Million Ways to Die. I pair this with a recent Block book, written about forty years later, called A Drop of the Hard Stuff. It's meticulously plotted and written. I would also recommend any of the Keller books."

"Joseph Wambaugh’s books were important to my learning about the inner lives of police officers.  Two that come to mind are The Choir Boys and Black Marble, but start anywhere."

"I'll end with Deon Meyer. He's a south African and his books are translated, but beautifully. Fever, which is a book about a pandemic, is the perfect gift for now. The other reason it's on this list is that the characters are so well-made that while I was reading it, when I had to set it aside, I would worry about the characters."

Note: Deon Meyer's newest novel, The Last Hunt, came out earlier this week and is available here.

Thomas Perry's most recent novel, A Small Town, is available now from Mysterious Press. His 2017 novel, The Old Man, is also strongly recommended.
