New report calls for major change in Ontario's high schools
People for Education has released a new report calling for the elimination of streaming in grade 9. The report points to extensive findings which suggest that dividing students between applied and academic courses early in high school contributes to lower achievement for many Ontario students.
The report also tells the story of one Ontario school which eliminated streaming in grade 9. The result: higher EQAO scores, better student behaviour, and more students wanting to stay in academic courses.
