New report calls for major change in Ontario's high schools

People for Education has released a new report calling for the elimination of streaming in grade 9. The report points to extensive findings which suggest that dividing students between applied and academic courses early in high school contributes to lower achievement for many Ontario students.

The report also tells the story of one Ontario school which eliminated streaming in grade 9. The result: higher EQAO scores, better student behaviour, and more students wanting to stay in academic courses.

Measuring What Matters - Tell us the story of your school

Does your school, community or board have have a program that’s focused on building students’ creativity, citizenship, social-emotional skills and/or their physical and mental health?

Are you working on the quality of the learning environment in your school community?

We want to hear about it!

  • As part of our Measuring What Matters initiative, People for Education is asking schools and communities across Canada to help build knowledge about the broad skills students need to acquire to succeed in life.
  • The examples we’re looking for should focus on least one of the five areas: citizenship, creativity, social-emotional skills, health or quality learning environments. We want to know about the goals that were set, who was involved and any results.
  • We're going to post examples of the stories we receive on our Measuring What Matters website.

Now more than ever, it's vital that we advocate for our schools.
