Please join Women in Lighting + Design (WILD)'s panel with representatives from architectural lighting design firms, Parsons School of Design, and the Stacks + Joules training program as we discuss the lack of women and minorities within the lighting industry and how education in STEM programs and other measures can help increase these numbers.
WHO is missing from the industry?
WHY do we have a lack of diversity among women and minorities in our lighting industry; especially from STEM backgrounds?
WHAT can we do in education and training to encourage diversity in our industry?
WHEN should students (what age) get real exposure to STEM curriculum and how can we join in the effort to reach them?
HOW do we encourage students to choose STEM-related professions; and do women and minorities have the same access to those choices as others?

Coming together for a first-of-its-kind effort, WILD Los Angeles, the IES Los Angeles Section, and the IALD Southern California Chapter are set to launch an exciting new diversity program. Collectively, they see a need to more fully serve the built environment and ensure success for our industry in a more-inclusive, digital future; so they’re reaching out to the next generation – and beyond. IESLA will host a happy hour Zoom to launch this education/outreach effort for SoCal youth: the Los Angeles Lighting Speakers Bureau. SoCal educators, lighting pros, and other interested parties are most welcome to pour their favorite beverage and join in to learn how we are already changing young minds.
