ISIP

Kamusta, OYFA!

Here is ISIP's weekly fact: A senator claimed that only taxpayers should be allowed to vote in elections to prevent patronage politics in the country. She says that those who don't pay taxes are among the poorest of the poor and vulnerable to receiving money from politicians.  Here is the article for those who want to learn more.

Have a question related to the Philippines? Send us a question and we'll discuss it in the next WIO!

Trivia Challenge
Be the first to answer back with at least one correct answer to be the next featured OYFAN! But wait! If you answer back with both answers by the end of this week (midnight on Sunday), you will be entered into the Week In OYFA Raffle for a chance to win a small gift at the next general meeting!

1. I'm a 4th Year computer engineering major involved in 2014 Trustees, OYFA, and AVP! Guess Hoo? (This person is in OYFA!)

2. What are OYFA's 12 Council Committees?

This week's Featured OOFAN is Kevin Padilla!

How were you involved in OYFA?

I was Membership Chair in my 2nd Year, Social Chair in my 3rd Year, and President last year.

What was your major and when did you graduate?

I majored in chemistry and was pre-pharmacy. I graduated last year and was a part of the OYFA Class of 2013, the self-proclaimed “Sexy Weird Class.”

What is your favorite or (one of your favorite) OYFA memories?

I will limit it to two because it's so hard to pick one! My first favorite memory was when OYFA won the Student Council Award for the “CIO of the Year 2012-2013” out of the 700+ organizations at UVA. It was my favorite memory because I felt that all the work that my Board and Council did as well as all the work the current members and alumni did after 25 years paid off and helped make the 25th Anniversary last year even more memorable.

My second favorite memory was hanging out with my friends in OYFA from meetings with my board, “Gusto kOYFA,” to Barrio practices to parties to random hangouts like spontaneously playing Assassins in New Cabell with OYFAns last year.

If you could give a first year OYFAn any advice, what would it be?

  • Do activities that will help you figure out if the future career you chose is the right fit for you.
  • Come into college with goals, but be flexible because your interests can change.
  • Don't stretch yourself too thin. Do things you are passionate about.
  • Always give back to the people who are supporting you including your family and your OYFAmily.
  • Never be afraid to try something new because if you're open to what life has to offer, the opportunities are limitless.

Answers to the previous trivia questions:
