Each summer, the Collegeville Institute opens its doors to pastors, ministers, lay leaders, and other thinkers and writers for week-long, intensive workshops geared toward various levels of writing skill, genre and interest.

Next summer we will hold eight writing workshops, taught and guided by such prolific writers as Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove, Lauren Winner, Michael Joncas, Susan Briehl, Evan Derkacz, Lisa Webster, Karen Hering, Michael Dennis Browne, Michael McGregor, and Mary Nilsen.

How to Read Poetry Devotionally

The uses (and abuses) of poetry are many, but one especially meaningful function of poetry can be its role in a devotional life. This talk will briefly discuss the history of the relationship of poetry and devotion, consider strategies for reading poetry devotionally, and introduce some poetic resources for devotional times. We will also read together several poems by Emily Dickinson and other poets.
