College of Nursing Recognized by U.S. News & World Report
The UTHSC College of Nursing's Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report in its 2022 Edition of Best Graduate Schools, achieving the rank of 26 from among the 163 DNP programs listed by the magazine. This marks a leap from the rank of 35 that the program achieved the previous year and is very similar to the No. 24 position that the DNP program earned in the U.S. News & World Report's list of DNP programs in 2020. The 2022 ranking places our DNP program in the top 16 percent of programs on the list. However, there are currently 357 DNP programs in the United States. The new ranking places the College of Nursing in the top 8% of all DNP programs, ranked and unranked.
To determine these rankings, U.S. News & World Report uses a combination of statistics and expert assessment data, including input and output measures. The input measures reflect the quality of students, faculty and resources. Output data include information such as exam pass rates and job placement. Expert assessment comes from surveys of those knowledgeable in academia and practice for each profession. Congratulations to all!

Grant Submissions

Dr. Sarah Rhoads has submitted an NIH R01 proposal titled "A Telemedicine Weight Loss Intervention to Reduce Cancer Risk in the Rural Mid-South."  The proposal was submitted through Preventive Medicine to the National Cancer Institute with Dr. Rhoads, Dr. Michelle Martin (COM) and Dr. Karen Johnson (COM), who will serve as Principal Investigators on the Multi-PI application. Co-Investigators on the grant included Dr. Lacretia Carroll, Dr. Fridtjof Thomas (COM), Dr. Phyllis Richey (COM), Dr. Charisse Madlock-Brown (CHP), and Dr. Claude Pirtle (West Tennessee Healthcare). The grant submission proposes a five-year timeline to  test whether the adapted Look AHEAD Intensive Lifestyle Intervention, adapted for rural populations in Arkansas, Kentucky, Missouri and Tennessee, will result in significant weight loss when delivered through telemedicine compared to a comparison group. If approved, the project will be conducted in two phases: a formative research phase and a clinical trial phase. The project will have a Community Advisory Board which includes stakeholders from rural areas and/or have an interest in rural health promotion.

Dr. Diana Dedmon and Dr. Sara Day have submitted a proposal to Blue Cross Blue Shield of TN for the COVID Vaccine Campaign Grant Funds for $178,000.  Drs. Dedmon and Day will serve as Co-PIs and be supported by Dr. Lisa Beasley and Dr. Wendy Likes along with Dr. Alisa Haushalter. If approved, the project will use funding provided by Blue Cross Blue Shield to develop and strategically implement a comprehensive network designed to decrease COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy and improve distribution with the goal of increasing vaccination rates in the underserved and under-immunized who reside in urban and rural areas of West Tennessee with an increased emphasis on communities of color.
