Happy Festive Season

Wishing you all a wonderful break and a huge thank you from the STOP AIDS team for your continued support.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM WORLD AIDS DAY

As part of World AIDS Day 2020, we hosted a range of virtual events, including a #cookdinechat event, teaming up with AIDS Memory UK and Club Kali. Chef Victor Okom taught us how to make Egusi Soup (just as his grandmother used to make in Nigeria).

We launched a
factsheet on HIV and Quality life and hosted a number of panel discussions.

Parliament

On World AIDS Day, we successfully briefed a number of Peers to ask supplementary questions in the House of Lords.  Baroness Sheehan and Lord Collins drew attention to the state of the international HIV response and Lord McConnell asked a question specifically on rethinking the proposed aid cuts. You can watch online here

We fed in our international messaging to Keir Starmer’s World AIDS Message which you can watch here (4th down on thread).

We also hosted the Youth Stop AIDS Day of Action on World AIDS Day. 11 Parliamentarians joined us for the event, including APPG Chair Stephen Doughy, who gave opening remarks.

Government

We were successful in our efforts to get an FCDO Minister (Wendy Morton MP) to record a short video marking World AIDS Day and reaffirming the UK’s commitment to the global HIV response. The video also had a strong VAWG and SRHR angle. You can see this here.

Other News

We secured some press coverage in The Guardian, The Independent and  Politico, which covered the aid cuts and the HIV response. You can read these by clicking on each article.

And Finally...

Thank you for all your support during this challenging and uncertain year. We look forward to being in touch in January with news and updates, to kick off 2021. In the meantime, have a wonderful break and healthy start to the new year.
