What is the most frustrating thing about being a Head? It is not, as perhaps you may think, the occasional behavioural issue or the (admittedly) many meetings. It is, of course, the challenge of trying to leave the confines of my gilded cage; the Scandinavian inspired office, overlooking the Nursery and the car park. So good it was, then, to be able to read to one of the Reception classes yesterday morning a book on being ‘stuck’ – not ‘stuck’ in my office, but up a tree. Wandering back through the Juniors to see the most creative of spelling lessons – shaving foam spread on a desk for little fingers to spell out words (with double consonants no less); to watch Year 2 at a football practice (concentrating on passing); to pass a group of Year 4 girls in the corridor laughingly practising a play at break (that is what they said they were doing anyway); to end up in my office and begin my hot chocolate meetings with new Year 5 children joining as far away as from India and from as near as the Primary School around the corner.
Alas, my desire to be free of the confines of my office did not extend to the half term tour to Barcelona and to next week’s Senior School trip to Berlin. Oh well – back to the spreadsheets and emails!

Associated Board Music Exams for both Juniors and Seniors
There will be two dates for our Associated Board Exams towards the end of the Autumn Term owing to the vast numbers of students involved.
Thursday 25th November will be for Prep Test Violins and Mrs Raggett’s singing pupils.
Friday 1st December will be for the remaining candidates.
Times will be circulated after half term.
Mr Richard Adams, Director of Music
School Shop
The School Shop opens on Wednesdays 15:30 – 16:30 and stocks a wide range of school, PE and Games uniform. We would be delighted to see if we can help with any uniform requirements. If our opening day and time is not convenient, then please email shop@crosfields.com and we would be happy to check if we have the item required in stock and can arrange a suitable time for collection.
Parking Update
Please can we remind parents to act with courtesy when parking in neighbouring roads. We have received complaints of parents parking and blocking people’s driveways. The temporary road works obviously have a dreadful impact on the traffic flow along Shinfield Road but let’s ensure that people’s frustration is aimed at them rather than us. Thank you for your co-operation.
