Welcome to the April issue of the ENIL Newsletter!
Every year, ENIL and its members celebrate the Independent Living Day on the 5th of May. We have thus prepared a few things for the occasion. This year theme will be the Youth and young disabled people, as 2022 is the European Year of Youth.
Also in this newsletter, you will find information about the 2022 Freedom Drive! This is one of our key event for anyone concerned about independent living, human rights and disability. Make sure you are part of it!
Coordination Handicap et Autonomie (a French member of ENIL) has been working on the right to publicly-funded personal assistance. It's a long-standing battle, but one that is bearing fruit. In this article, you will learn more about how things are going in France and what remains to be done.
Then, you will find an article which relates the importance of social protection and at the same time, its failure to meet the needs of disabled people. What can be done?
Our staff member, Laura Alčiauskaitė and Kamil Goungor attended a forum from the Council of Europe on Human Rights Education. Laura shares with us what she has learned!
Last but not least, a reminder to sign and share our petition for an end to institutions for disabled people in Europe. We have passed the 1000 signatures mark, next target: 1500. Please help us reach it!
Not to forget, another reminder for our organisational members. Do write something about your organisation, so we can introduce you to our readers. You can send all articles (or questions for clarification) to
michael.goossens@enil.eu (This is just for member organisations, full and associate, not individuals)
Happy reading, stay safe, healthy and see you next month!
