AGM held, Annual Report released

Yesterday, we hosted our 32nd Annual General Meeting at Hawthorn Arts Centre. Guests were treated to a presentation by Sue Pieters-Hawke, who spoke on the topic 'Caring For A Person withʉۻDementia: You Are Not Alone.'

This was immediately followed by the Alzheimer’s Australia Dementia Research Foundation – Victoria Annual General Meeting.

This year’s theme was The Power of Partnerships, which is reflected in both Annual Reports. Download your copies now by clicking here.
Bendigo Memory Walk & Jog a great success

A massive thank you to everybody who turned out to support us at our Memory Walk & Jog event, held at Bendigo’s Strathdale Park on Sunday 11 October.

Over 200 participants enjoyed the day, with all funds raised going to support the future activities of Alzheimer’s Australia Vic.

Research study for Mild Cognitive Impairment

Researchers at Monash University are conducting a study into the effects of mindfulness on the health outcomes of persons with mild cognitive impairment (MCI).

The 4th National Elder Abuse Conference is set to be hosted by Seniors Rights Victoria from 23 - 25 February 2016 at the Pullman Melbourne on the Park.

The Conference will focus on the rights of older people to live life free from ageism and elder abuse. Early bird registration rates will be available until 13 November 2015.

Dementia – Breaking Down the Myths at Neerim South

Join us in Neerim South on 2 December for this free community seminar, during which you will learn what dementia is including the main causes, key signs and symptoms, risk factors and common myths and misconceptions.

A Trek to Remember is underway

Best of luck to Rosalie, Bianca, Alice, Mary, Kristin and Warwick - our band of intrepid explorers, who are, as we speak, embarking on the adventure of a lifetime in Nepal. Over the next two weeks they will be trekking to raise funds for Alzheimer’s Australia Vic.

Radio National Big Ideas panel discussion

Check out this special ABC Radio National Big Ideas show broadcast earlier in October as part of Mental Health Week.

A forum held at the The Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health examined some of the promising new research into dementia diagnosis. Our consumer Jenny appeared on the panel.

Dementia Awareness Month School Banners

Exploring Montessori as a Practice Model

Join us in Parkville on 9 November for this workshop – an introduction to Montessori through the work of Dr. Cameron Camp. The program provides an introduction to Montessori as a model for service delivery and uses self-assessment tools to explore how this might look in your organisation.

A new University of Melbourne and National Ageing Research Institute research project into impact of sitting time and physical activity on brain health is seeking volunteers. For more information, click here.

Intellectual Disability and Dementia

The changes associated with dementia impact significantly on the person, their family and carers. For a person with intellectual disability it may be harder to recognise an emerging dementia condition.

Participating in this program on 19 November will help you to identify dementia related changes in people who have an existing intellectual disability.
