Hello Old Field South Neighbor,
On June 18, 2022 Old Field South’s Beautification Committee hosted a tree planting ceremony on the ‘island’ on Robinswood Rd. and Southgate Rd.
The tree was planted in honor of the late Curtis VanValkenburgh who passed away last September at the age of 97. Mr. VanValkenburgh along with his late wife Trudy moved into their home at 18 Highwood Rd. in 1958. This beautiful custom built home in the heart of OFS was designed by Curtis, who was an engineer for Grumman. He lived at his home after his wife’s passing until last year for more than 60 years. Mr. VanValkenburgh will always be remembered as a gentleman as his neighbors referred to him as ‘Courteous Curtis’.
