A Message from the Principal

DEAR GATOR FAMILIES, I am hoping you all had a restful break with your beautiful children! With just 42 school days left, I want to focus on the value of courage and the inner strength it takes to be an upstander in today's world by doing the right thing, especially when no one is watching. In November of 2016, in Chicago, a third grade student courageously coined the phrase Hate Has No Home Here and a global movement was started. It takes just one! The project promotes justice and inclusive neighborhoods and communities where everyone is welcomed and valued. Please click here for more information and consider a yard sign. Remember ... Love Is Louder! I will be visiting all classrooms in the next few weeks to encourage tolerance, empathy, and courage. Below are links to videos I may be sharing with our older students. Gratefully, Mrs. Doyle.

Earth Week at GV

EVERY DAY IS EARTH DAY AT GRAND VIEW! Because we are a National Green Ribbon School, taking care of our environment is second nature so we will celebrate with an Earth Week Challenge! Each day, students will participate in different green activities. Here is what parents and caregivers need to know:
  • TUESDAY we will focus on WASTE. Students bring a trash-free lunch to earn Challenge points. Students who order lunch can earn points by sorting lunch waste or by picking up trash around campus.
  • WEDNESDAY we will focus on AIR. Students walk or wheel to school. Grades of Green Youth Corps member Penn Clay and the Grand View Green Team will be out during pick-up time encouraging drivers to turn off their vehicles if idling for more than ten seconds.
  • THURSDAY we will focus on WATER. Students bring reusable water bottles.
  • FRIDAY we will focus on ACTION. Teachers tally the Earth pledges students recorded on the classroom board.
  • SATURDAY join us in Polliwog Park for the Earth Day Celebration! There will be over sixty vendors and exhibitors, a family drum circle, a FREE Kids' Zone with eco-crafts, an obstacle course, a free clothing swap, and a performance by The Lucky Ones. Click for details.
2017 CERTIFIED GREEN HONOR SCHOOL We are excited to announce that Grand View has been named a Grades of Green Certified School for Spring 2017! This honor is awarded to schools that take on at least five Grades of Green activities. We continue to inspire and empower kids to care for the environment through recycling, composting, donating leftover food, supporting vehicle No Idle Zones, encouraging trash-free lunches, and teaching lasting environmental values. Congratulations, Green Gators!

The gathering can be a formal dinner or a casual BBQ, the host gets to define the evening. Guests bring a dish and get ready for fun! Leave the kids at home and enjoy some adult time with your fellow Gator parents! Click here to indicate interest by 4/28.
