We were excited to host a live webinar for the recently published Recreational Carrying Capacity study. Our live panel featured:

They provided an informative presentation about the data from the study covering various angles and was followed by a Q/A session.

Reuse before you Recycle this holiday!

"Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" isn't just a random sequence; each step serves a purpose. Too often, we jump straight to recycling without considering how we can first reuse an item. Reusing extends the life of a product, sparks creativity, and conserves both energy and resources that would otherwise go into manufacturing new items. Crafting is a perfect way to start reusing! Not only do you end up with something creative, unique, and fun, but you also breathe new life into materials that might otherwise end up in a landfill.

Even though we are no longer out in the field during this season we are still busy at work preparing for when spring swings around! Our success in the warmer months are dependent on the work we do throughout the winter. We work on important tasks to support our future projects.

In October, professional biologist, Rachel Darvill conducted our Aquatic Bird Survey on Lake Windermere. Though final reports are not yet published the number of species observed are available to view on eBird. A great opportunity to see the diversity in our lake and perhaps help you identify the birds you might have spotted yourself! 15 species were identified on observation day, have a look HERE!

We are so fortunate to be living by the world's longest skating path! In 2014 Lake Windermere Whiteway was even granted the title in the Guinness Book of Records. Stretching for 34km we can skate, ski, walk, or bike to our heart's content.
History
The trail was created by the Toby Creek Nordic Ski Club in 2006 to connect communities along Lake Windermere during the winter.
Who are the caretakers?
It takes a village to keep the Whiteway going. The Toby Creek Nordic Ski Club provides the main upkeep of the trails, but it wouldn’t be possible without the support of volunteers, donors, and of course, all the users who contribute to making it a success.
How thick is the ice?
Being certain that the ice is thick enough is the most important safety check for lake activity in the winter. Stay up to date on the ice conditions on Toby Creek Nordic website by checking their Nordic Pulse App, Facebook, or Instagram. |
