BABY WEARING SAFETY
It's getting warmer the markets are back open and lots of Spring Fete's are about.
This means I've been seeing heaps of families out with babies in carriers which is GREAT!
Baby carriers or slings are soo amazing & often versatile for Mum Dad or caregivers to remain hands-free while keeping bubs happy and close. However I do get concerned when I see a lot of babies sitting too low, spines unsupported and legs dangling like baby is hanging from a thong bikini. As the weather gets warmer it's very important to keep an eye on babies' temperature as carriers can get very hot and sweaty!
It is always advisable to read the carriers manual, stick to weight restrictions and suitable ages for back carrying etc.
Here's a really handy simple way to check if you're carrying safely:

CITIZENS ADVICE FOR THIS MONTH

My former partner has left me with money owing on rent and bills.
Am I liable for all of those debts?

You could be liable for personal debts (even if they are solely in your partner’s name) if they would be considered relationship debts. Either partner can be pursued for the repayment of relationship debt.
Relationship debt includes any joint debts (e.g. a loan in both of your names, rent for a tenancy which names both of you as the tenants). You could also be liable for your former partner’s debt if you are the guarantor of your former partner’s credit contract.
Ideally you and your ex-partner will be able to negotiate over how you will share your relationship debts. It will be useful to get this in writing and signed by both of you as proof of your agreement.
If you're not able to discuss such things with your former partner, you can use the Disputes Tribunal or Family Court to help sort things out.
In the meantime, tell the creditor (the person or organisation to whom the money is owed) about your situation. In this circumstance, you may be eligible for hardship provisions on any credit contracts you have. If you would like more information please contact us on 0800 367 222 / 03 349 5236, or check our website cab.org.nz

DEMENTIA CANTERBURY ANNUAL APPEAL
Our Annual Appeal this year is on Friday 20 and Saturday 21 November and we are very much in need of volunteer collectors. We realise that Covid-19 has caused anxiety in relation to social distancing and meeting in public but hope that in Level one (as we are at the time of writing this email) people are feeling more confident in social settings. To offer reassurance, we will have masks and pocket-sized hand sanitiser packs available for all volunteers. Also, our buckets will have a QR barcode displayed to allow for contactless payment.
Call Deb or Karen on 03 379 2590 for more information. Please indicate where and when you would like to collect. We are also looking for people who might co-ordinate a collection site for the day . . . perhaps get a group of friends who could cover one to two hour shifts over a few hours?
We rely heavily on the support of our volunteers. As a not-for-profit with nearly two thirds of our income coming from fundraising, we really need your help.

Your Community Hall is run by a small group of volunteers who oversee the bookings and maintenance of this excellent Community facility.  It is owned by our Community and we always welcome any enquiries regarding bookings for functions or social activities.  At the Halswell Hall we offer a range of facilities with the main Hall having a capacity of 200. We also have an excellent meeting room (The Sunbeam Lounge) which can accommodate up to 50.  This adjoins our upgraded kitchen and is ideal for smaller groups. The meeting room is readily available, and we welcome your enquiry.  For any enquiries about availability or our facilities please email us at halswellhallchch@gmail.com.

We still can engage more members, volunteers and Committee to help oversee the routine running of this valuable Community facility for the coming year.  If you have a few hours a month available and enjoy being part of the community, we would love to talk to you about how you can help. Just email us at halswellhallchch@gmail.co for further information.
