Giving Thanks and Racing to the Finish

As we all get set to celebrate Thanksgiving with family and friends this Thursday, I have been thinking about what Thanksgiving means to me.  A lot of us have silly stories of turkey disasters and pumpkin pies falling on the floor; calamitous stories of fights with relatives or travel plans gone array; and amazing stories of seeing loved ones who live far away. I have all these stories too.  But this year, I am just excited that Wyeth will have finished most of his science project before we leave to go to my sister’s in New Jersey.  Kidding!  There is A LOT more I am thankful for than the completion of over 120 timed trials of running a remote-control car over different road surfaces.  But it did make the list.

There are a few things I want to thank YOU for.

Thank you for standing with the League team and pushing back on interchange and supporting our other advocacy efforts.  It truly does move the dial.

Thank you for your support of our events and education- in particular our annual meeting.  Here is the line-up for next year.

Thank you for your support of our partners, including CUNA Mutual.  We are looking to link you with even more solutions next year.

Thank you for your advice, counsel, and guidance as we navigate the future.

Thank you for your membership.

Thank you for being amazing credit union leaders.

I am extremely proud of the work that the team has done this year in representing and fighting for your interests.  I also thank them for their dedication.  But we are not quite finished yet.  As we head into holiday season, I am look forward to us meeting with our Governor Glenn Youngkin on December 2.  If you would still like to attend, we have a few spaces left. To RSVP please email JT Blau by 5pm on Monday, November 28th. We are excited for you to share the great work your credit unions do for your members so he can better understand the credit union difference.

We still have the lame duck ahead of us to see if we can pass legislation relative to banking marijuana businesses, passing a budget, and passing a NDAA without harmful provisions.  Stay tuned.  Each day it is different story on what will pass or what will not.  Of note, Senator Sherrod Brown, the Chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, privately stated he is “confident” but not positive that marijuana banking will pass.

I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday.  In case anyone is wondering, it takes a 1:12 scale remote control car with all-season tires an average 2.32 seconds to traverse 20 feet on asphalt under damp road conditions.  Under the same conditions, it takes 2.45 seconds on concrete.

P.S. How do you Credit Union? I would love to hear from you. Always feel free to shoot me a note or call.
