End of Summer Reading Pizza Party!

Sat., August 2 at 2 PM
Participants in the Summer Reading Program are invited to the library for pizza, cake, and the Grand Prize Drawing.

Pets Caught Reading Photography Contest
June 7 - August 2
Time is running out!  Submit a photo of your pet using your camera or phone to win a prize!  Bonus points will be awarded if you catch your pet “reading” or dressing them up as their favorite literary character!  Winners will be chosen by August 9, the winner will receive a $20 gift card to PetSmart.

Monday Movie Matinee
Mon., August 4 at 2 PM
This month’s free movie is based on the best-selling novel by Veronica Roth that follows Beatrice Prior and her adventure to discovering where she belongs in a post-apocalyptic society based in Chicago. Space is limited, so register in advance.   

Turning 65: Understanding Medicare Part D
Thur., August 21 at 10:30 AM
Join Diane Adduci from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois for a free informational program about Medicare Part D, the Medicare Prescription Drug Program.  She will be discussing enrollment periods, the four phases of coverage, formularies, and tips on how to choose a plan.  Program time is approximately 60 minutes, which includes a question and answer session.

Young Adult Photography Contest:  
This years theme:  Animals.  Take a picture of your pet, a friend’s pet, or even an animal in nature.  All entries must be submitted by Saturday August 2 at photo@acornlibrary.org.   Photos can be viewed at:  ww.acornlibraryphoto.wordpress.com

Story Time at Panera Bread

Join us for stories, songs and cookies!  Each child in attendance will receive a free cookie and milk, courtesy of Panera.

Young Adult Book Discussion Group

Grades 6 and Up
This month we'll be discussing Shift by Jennifer Bradbury. Snacks will be served, and copies of the book are available at the YS Desk. 

 
Summer Reading Program Pool Party

Participants should arrive at 9:45 AM to hear pool rules
All ages-must be accompanied by an adult. 

Finishers of the Summer Reading Program are eligible to come to our closing pool party!  You must have completed at least the first level of the reading program in order to be eligible to register for the pool party, a signed permission slip on file, and all participants must be accompanied by an adult to be admitted to the party.  Registration is on a first come first serve basis, any time after the child has completed the first reading level.

Teen Activities Group- TAG
Thursday, August 21, 7 PM
Grades 6 and Up
Does meeting new friends and hanging out with your peers while planning volunteer activities sound interesting to you? The TAG group volunteers at the library and in the community on a monthly basis as opportunities present themselves. Come join the fun and earn service hours! Registration begins two weeks prior ending when full.  


LEGO Club

Ages 6-12
Each meeting we will create around a different theme.  Registration begins two weeks prior, ending when full.

Introduction to Word

Basic introduction to Microsoft Word and how to use word processors.  You should be fairly comfortable with using a mouse and a keyboard. The following concepts will be covered:

MUSE-Meets on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month at 7 PM.  Interested in writing a book?  This is your group.
 
BOOK DISCUSSION GROUP- Our "Tuesday Night Bookies" meets on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 7:30 PM.  For more details and to reserve a book for this group, contact the Circulation Desk.
 
QUILT GROUP - Meets on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 7 PM.  Bring your project and swap great ideas for quilting. 
 
MORAINE VALLEY ADULTS TEACHING ADULTS - Meets every Wednesday at 6 PM  For more information, stop in the Library on Wednesday nights. 
 
NONFICTION BOOK DISCUSSION GROUP"Barcodes" meets on the first Thursday of the month at 7:30 at Oliver's Bar and Grill. 
 
ARTISTS' NIGHT OUT - Meets on the 2nd Monday of each month at 7 PM. If you like to draw, color, or paint, this is for you.  You can come to participate or just observe.  Beginners can shave years off their learning curve receiving tips on supplies, techniques or lessons.
