May Happenings!

In mid-May, after months of working via computers and phones, a few of the Icarus coordinators will be getting together by the Atlantic for a collaborative-work retreat.  We’re going to be working on some concrete structure and function elements, like coming up with a working-guide-to-Icarus that lays out organizational roles - what we do and how we do it.

The tech team, Manu Sachdeva and Taran Rampersad, are going to be working with coordinators on website overviews and growth strategies. We’ll also be spending some time considering our work as an organization that seeks to be allies in collective liberation by doing conscientious and relevant work at the intersection of mental health and anti-oppression.

Icarus coordinators will be posting a reportback and we're hoping that the work done this year will support more opportunities for working with and visioning with the dispersed community in the coming months.

Past Into Present Into Future

Sascha has been going through old Icarus articles and posting some of the writings that have helped to define Icarus over the years. These revisited articles are being posted every Thursday or so.
Here are a couple of great recent throwback postings:

With the new site, we're working on organizing and tagging site content for improved searchability...if there is a favorite old article you love, please feel free to post it to our Facebook group or tweet it to @madgifts!

The Icarus website development and admin team are hard at work creating a new home for our online community. The Icarus Project's website is more than a repository for our zines and media - it's a space of exchange, support, and connection, an authentic space in an increasingly hectic and hostile sea of corporate social media.

While our existing site is currently functional, technology continues to shift around us and we are so happy to have been able to invest in the creation of a more secure new site designed for sustainability and usability.

There will be a period of transition between the old site and the new, and we're excited about the opportunities this move will create for The Icarus Project.  After 12 years of existence, on a number of different platforms and many thousands of participants, we are looking forward to having a new home for our growing and maturing community.

Whisper Rapture...

Longtime contributors to The Icarus Project and arts-activism within the radical mental health movement Bonfire Madigan Shive and Ken Paul Rosenthal have joined forces to create a new multi-media cinematic exhibition of Madigan's musical scores set to images of performance and landscape woven through with personal narratives of healing and reclamation.

Please check out, share, and support the Kickstarter campaign that has been created to support this monumental multi-media storytelling project and let folks know that there is an opportunity to support two amazing artists in their effort to co-create a beautiful work in service to the human potential to cultivate beauty and find freedom in our own voices.

The Whisper Rapture: A Bonfire Madigan Suite campaign ends in less than 72 hours and your support could help make sure this project is fully funded!

Here's a recent post of an interview with Ken and Madigan that offers some incredible glimpses into the roots of art-activism and The Icarus Project, stokes the fires of liberation through self-expression and honors the role of community-supported arts in catalyzing beauty and truth within our collective narratives.

                                                   xoxo, madlove!
