D12 Democrats Chair’s Report
D12 Democrats Business Spotlight: Nico’s Barbershop
MCDP Chair Nancy Schriber & MCDP Executive Director Maritza M. Saenz
Elected Officials and Candidates:
Sarah Tyree, Candidate for Arizona Democratic Party Chair
Raquel Terán, Candidate for Arizona Democratic Party Chair
The AZ D12 Democrats of Gilbert and Queen Creek were shocked and saddened by the abhorrent events that unfolded on January 6, 2021 at the United States Capitol. The defacement of not only our country’s sanctuaries of democracy but on our institutions of our government was deplorable and dangerous. This attempted coup is the result of months of conspiratorial rhetoric by not only President Trump but congressional members including Andy Biggs and local politicians like Warren Petersen, Travis Grantham and Jake Hoffman. We denounce this type of rhetoric and demand that all elected officials of CD5 and LD12 join us in our effort to restore civility to our political discourse and democratic process.
Be a Precinct Committeeperson.
"The most important job I ever held was that of Precinct Captain." — President Harry S. Truman
What is a Precinct Committee Person?
Precinct Committee Persons (PC) are a core political resource in that they are the grassroots/foundational building block for the Democratic Party. PC’s are a driving force behind registering voters, sharing our Democratic messages and connecting with neighbors.
As a PC, your “precinct” is your neighborhood. Who knows the people, schools and neighborhood associations better then you? The primary role of the PCs for each precinct is to work together; to serve as the connection between the Democratic Party, the voters and our Democratic elected officials; and to represent your entire precinct within the Party.
Following are some of the duties of a PC:
Attend District Meetings - Attend the monthly meetings for Legislative District 12. They occur the third Monday of the month, from 7:00 to 8:30 PM, via ZOOM.
Get Trained - Attend training sessions to improve skills and effectiveness as a PC. Learn how to use the VAN (Voter Activation Network) maintained by the Maricopa County Democratic Party to create walking and phone banking lists.
Support Candidates - Support nominees of the Democratic Party and educate voters in your precinct about the Democratic Party, its nominees, and Democratic issues.
Canvass - Build relationships with Democrats in your precinct by door-to-door canvassing, phone banking, and/or organizing informational gatherings to share information regarding Democratic candidate, issues or values.
Promote the PEVL (Permanent Early Voting List) - Inform voters in your precinct about the Permanent Early Voting List (PEVL) and encourage signing up.
GOTV (Get Out The Vote) - Help GOTV (get out the vote) on Election Day (and when possible, throughout the 72 hours preceding Election Day).
How do I become a PC?
Please contact Alex Cardona, the chair of the D12 Democrats for a Precinct Committeeperson application.
