Meet the leaders of D14!
Mike Flores, D14 Chair

Previously, Mike Flores was a senior manager with the US Postal Service (USPS), had served in a variety of executive positions in Colorado, Texas, California, and New Mexico, and just completed two years in Phoenix as the USPS Marketing Manager for the Arizona/New Mexico District office. “Next to my ten years as the Postmaster of Denver, the Phoenix assignment was my other favorite,” he said.

Flores who retired in 2018 had settled in the Seville subdivision; found he had time and not many activities to fill that time.  “I know retirement is a transition and I wasn’t alone in that predicament” said Flores. “I still wanted to be productive and to do so in a positive way that helped others”.  One way was to work part-time as a substitute teacher for the Chandler Unified School District. “I enjoy the kids but I wanted to do more,” he said.

Flores was also elected president of the Gilbert Rotary Club and spends many hours with his club participating in good works projects for the Gilbert community. "Leading a volunteer organization like Rotary International makes managing another volunteer organization, like a  Legislative District, a little easier but I didn't expect the workload to be so much bigger," said Flores.

Flores, who has a Masters in Management and Corporate Leadership, has led organizations with more than 10,000 employees, 500 field sites, and more than $700 million budget. "You would think that smaller groups would be easier, but they are not,.especially when your staff do not receive a paycheck," he said. "Accountability is also harder to do as folks can just walk away if they are not content with what they are doing," said Flores. "It's the chair's job to keep people excited, informed, and motivated and that's my primary objective."
The next D14 Happy Hour will be on Wednesday, May 25 at 6:00PM.  The theme is "Memorial Day."  Be on the lookout for location and additional details!
