Board is more than honored to introduce you OYFA 2017-2018 Board and Council for OYFA's 30th Anniversary. We believe these amazing individuals will carry OYFA to the highest heights. Best of luck to you all! We can't wait to see the great things you guys will do.




I’d just like to announce that Jane Canteros, my co-sib, will be our Treasurer for the 2017-2018 school year. I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us!
I’d also like to announce the winning design for the Barrio 2017 t-Shirts! Congratulations to Jerome Tirso designing such an amazing, unique, fantastic, great t-shirt!

Green Dot Training:

Next Sunday, March 26th from 11am to 5pm, OYFA is going to
Green Dot Training! This training will teach us how to be better bystanders in helping prevent sexual violence in our community. You'll be part of a MOVEMENT to change UVA's culture to be a family that looks out for each other.  The training is six hours long and FREE lunch will be provided! Sign up here in the OYFA slot:

Bake Sale:

Come get some tasty Filipino desserts TOMORROW 12-5 (Monday) at the South Lawn! Prices range from $2-5 for turon, biko, sago at gulaman, and puto! The profits will go towards D7 and an activism group ending human trafficking in the Philippines! Bring your friends!!!

Word of the Week: “Kapamilya” (ka-pa-meel-yah) means a part of the family. Only two more weeks til BARRIO! Get excited and bring your whole Kapamilya to celebrate with our OYFAmilya!

Also, we would like to congratulate Dorian Nguyen for being elected as the next Advocacy chair!!! We know he will bring great change, ideas, and implementation to the position and we can't wait to see what he and his future cochair will do! Good luck Dorian!

O Y F A!!!! We couldn’t be happier with announcing our successors, Mikey Ramirez and Dana Kim!  All your hard work and energy showed during elections, and we are looking forward to seeing all ~incredible~ things you will accomplish for the 30th! 


We will be having our second to last Mem Dinner!!! Thursday at 6:30PM back at OHILL!!!!!!  COME EAT WITH US BEFORE WE VANISH!

D7 Representatives


This is a reminder that
OYFA Bake Sale is tomorrow March 20th on the South Lawn from 12-5 PM! Come out to enjoy some tasty Filipino treats like: Biko, Puto, Sago, and Turon!!!

Again, The second round of the D7 shirt sale has launched! These sweet fitted baseball shirts are now only $15, and if you want to jump on the opportunity to grab one, feel free to contact John or Dani (They are actually really dope). If you already purchased a shirt for $20, you’re in luck! Contact us for a $5 refund.

Lastly, OYFA’s D7 chair positions is still looking for two capable people to take on the position for the 2017-2018 school year! If you are interested, feel free to contact John or Dani about the position, and we will be able to answer any questions you have. D7 is an amazing position that allows you to network with hundreds of the vast Filipino collegiate body across the country! Together, you are able to coordinate events, visit several culture shows, and become part of a much larger family beyond OYFA. It was amazing to be able to go to different schools across several states and instantly feel welcome because I already knew the people there!

Thank you so much for coming out to elections on Saturday! I would like to introduce my successor, Regina Yap! I really look forward to the things she has in store for us next year as Webmaster! All of the candidates have made me proud with their preparations, and I would like to thank them all for running!

General Announcements
  • At a school where there are twice as many students from the top 5% as there are from the bottom 60%, it is easy for low-income and first-generation students to feel isolated. Join United for Undergraduate Socioeconomic Diversity (U-FUSED) on Monday, March 20th in Minor 125 at 7 pm to hear five student speakers share their hardships and their triumphs. Food and refreshments will be provided.

  • Participatory Budgeting initiative for UVA students (PB@UVA): At our first event, “PB at UVA: Sharing Our Vision,” we will listen to each other and brainstorm ideas. This will lead to a second proposal development event and the an open voting period, during which all students at the university will have the opportunity to vote on the ideas they want to fund. PB@UVA will give students a platform to share their thoughts and work together to make the changes they want to see.
    Our first event will be on Friday March 31, at 12 PM at OpenGrounds. We will jumpstart PB@UVA and share our vision for UVA. Join the facebook event here.
  • Spring is the season for cherry blossom. While cherry trees start to bloom along the east coast, Japan Club coordinately invites you to Japan Matsuri this upcoming Friday(3/24) from 7-9pm @Shea House. You can try traditional Japanese games such as kendama, shooting game, and senbonbiki. After finishing games, you will get tickets for Japanese food like takoyaki, chocobanana, and okonomiyaki. In addition, there will be a photo booth where we provide yukata(summer kimono) for you to wear. The event is free, so please come and join us!
