Advocacy

Hey OYFA! Christmas and finals are almost upon us so check out some tips for finals and facts about Christmas in the Philippines!

Culture:
In the spirit of
Secret Santa coming up on Dec. 3rd @ the Runk Green Room 8-10 PM, check out the different ways Filipinos celebrate Christmas here and here!
  • Because the Philippines is 80% Catholic, mass sessions (called Simbang Gabi) are held from December 16 to Christmas Eve. The last Simbang Gabi may have a following feast called “Noche Buena”
  • Paróls are star lanterns made out of bamboo and cellophane and hung during Christmas time
  • Filipinos also celebrate Christmas by lighting fireworks, dancing, present-giving, and singing Filipino Christmas carols!

Finals Stress: Finals season is here! But don’t let that strike fear into your hearts because we KNOW you can handle it and we’ve got some tips here to help you through the next few weeks.
  1. Study sooner and study smarter. Start now, crack open that book as soon as you’re done reading this WIO.
  2. Get some sleep, even if it’s just a few hours. Everyone is more stressed when they’re tired and little issues can become big ones.
  3. Treat your body right with exercise and healthy, non-sugary snacks. Many experts believe that protein will help your brain function better.
Lastly, know that this large amount of studying can cause stress for anyone and sometimes just thinking about your workload can cause more stress. Try to not let that stress get to you and harness that energy into focusing on the tasks at hand. Picture your success and the end of finals week! Read more here, here, and here.

Word of the Week: “pamasko po?” (pa-mah-sko poh) means “Christmas gift, please.” Which is what you will be saying at Secret Santa!

Have a wonderful week everyone!
