Board Announcements

Hello OYFA!
We still have two open positions on Council: PR chair and D7 Representative. Here is the nomination form:
Click me!. If you are interested in either of these positions or have any questions about the interim interview process, feel free to contact me or anyone else on Board.

Why Are Filipino Americans Still Forgotten and Invisible?

“Despite our unique history in the U.S., our large numbers, our significant contributions to the Asian American community, and our unique struggles with racism, immigration, health, and in other areas (e.g., education, income, etc.) that challenge the “model minority myth”, we are still ignored and rendered irrelevant.”
Incarceration Rates of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders on the Rise
AAPI inmate data gets lost in the system — the population essentially doesn’t’ exist in prison and jails across the country– adding fuel to the fire of the model minority myth. “We’re not supposed to be in jail – Asian folks are supposed to be in school; but, that myth erases our experience of living in urban poverty, it doesn’t reflect the reality of our community” says Chhoum.
SF supervisors approve PHL cultural district
“A report on CBS San Francisco said the San Francisco Board of Supervisors (SFBS) adopted on April 12 a resolution that would create the heritage district, also known as SoMa Pilipinas, in the neighborhood.”

See you all next week!

D7 Representatives

Hey OYFAm, just wanted to say thanks to the awesome people who came out to VCU this weekend to watch FACT perform Sino. Athough I'm sad that it was the last culture show of the year, it was pretty lit. Also, if you are looking ahead to the future, we will be setting the date and location for D7 elections soon, so keep an eye/ear out for that. I hope everyone has enjoyed their weekend.

Much love,

Hey everyone!

First off, a big thank you to everyone who came out to Relay, it was a huge success and an amazing fun time! Shout-out to anyone who brought food, blankets, games, anything to help us power through the night, we did it!!!

On another note, get hype for the End-of-the-Year Picnic! We've got some crazy fun games planned, including a new kickball game along with the classic football games! Hope to see you all there!
