What’s up OYFAm!
Come join us this Friday at the Multi-Cultural Student Center for the Fall Symposium! I have invited Marconi Calindas to speak to us about his career as a Flipino painter and how that has affected his life. The event itself will have an art show type feel to it so come out and enjoy some great paintings, and some cool raffle prizes!
We’ll be getting dinner at Fry’s Spring Station afterwards, feel free to come!

Advocacy
Helloyfa!
Last weeks events got you down? Well, we’ve got a lot of goodness and love opportunities THIS week so check em out!
Social Activism:

Eliminate is having a Teach-In on TUESDAY at Old Cabell from 12-2 about what hate speech is and they’re hosting a Flash Slam TOMORROW from 12 - 3 in front of Old Cabell. Sign up/volunteer to educate your peers about hate speech or to read your own slammin’ poem right here!! (They’ll also leave the 15-20 minutes for open mic btw!) If you aren’t able to volunteer, definitely hang out at their events for a bit and be part of the movement of our generation!
Safe Space Training:

OYFA will be going to Safe Space Training on November 21 from 5 - 7 PM! Come learn how to be an ally to the LGBTQ community. Participants will be given a distinctive rainbow-colored sticker that reads “I am sensitive to and supportive of lesbian, gay, bi, trans, queer, and questioning people.” These stickers can be seen all around Grounds to visibly designate safe spaces. Please sign up here as we have limited spaces!
Word of the Week:

“bahaghari” (ba-hag-har-ee) means “rainbow.” Like a bahaghari, we should celebrate the diversity and colorful perspectives in our community because only having one color in a rainbow is boring.

Sports
What’s good OYFAM
Tonight’s game was intense, to put it lightly. Our team powered through till the end but came just 3 points short from the opponent. While each player put their all into those 40 minutes, unfortunately, our IM season has come to an end.
On the bright side, both our football and basketball teams were undefeated in the regular season! HUGE shout out to the players, the fans, and to all those who supported us each game. Y’all are the reason why we enjoy doing what we do!
Look out for next semester’s sports and have a happy Thanksgiving!
Much love,
~spoRts chAirs~

- ASU's "En Root"
Want to learn more about how being an Asian American affects your identity today? En Root is an interactive and hands-on activity that seeks to foster discussion about how Asian American immigrants have shaped America’s history and how that history impacts us today. We will be doing different things like mapping out a huge timeline of when our families immigrated to the US or using an identity board to explore what “categories” may individually define us the most. Come out this Wednesday, November 16, from 6-7pm at New Cabell 383!

That concludes our Week in OYFA! for this week! Thank you guys for tuning in. Keep up the good work! - LêcSec
