Advocacy
Heyyy OYFA! This week is all about getting back to our beginnings and roots.
Dialogue: We will be co-sponsoring “#IAmAnImmigrant Day” with LSA, MELC, MRC and other orgs on November 1st - THIS TUESDAY at 301 Wilson Hall 8-9:30 PM! It will be a 2-part event where speakers from OYFA and other orgs tell their story about their families immigrating to, assimilating, and living in America followed by an open discussion. Come for FREE PUPUSAS, SHIRTS, and APPRECIATION for the contribution of immigrants in America!

Come out to the Amphitheater on Saturday November 5th from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM to celebrate Culturefest and Global Student Council's International Tea Festival!
Not only will you get to immerse yourself within UVA's cultural diversity, but you'll also get the chance to taste tea from all across the globe. Enjoy interactive booths, exciting foods, lots of TEA and don't forget to bring your families! It'll give you a chance to impress them with the amazing cultural experience UVA has to offer! Come and try some Filipino “tea” called sago!

- On behalf of OCA – Asian Pacific American Advocates, we would like to invite students from your organization to attend the free COALESCE Leadership Retreat on Saturday November 12th in Washington, D.C at the South East Asian Resource Action Center. You can register here for free until Nov. 4: http://bit.ly/2e96Hkh. Also we are offering a lodging and travel stipend of up to $200.00 if you are coming from out of town and you can register for that here by Oct. 27: http://bit.ly/2dWxCMN The purpose of these regional convening’s is to give participants an opportunity to refine some of the knowledge they have pertaining to professional development and advocacy. The event is free for students, and free meals will be provided.

UNICEF at UVA is holding a fundraiser at the Kendra Scott store in the Stonefield shopping center 5-8pm on Friday, November 4th. 20 percent of the proceeds will go towards providing humanitarian assistance to children and families in underdeveloped areas, including the Hurricane Matthew victims.
