Hi guys! My name is Oanh and I am a third year biology major. I am interested in baking (especially banana bread with free bananas from Ohill)  and doing leg dayz to make leg gainz and advocacy!

                         

As for current events this week, do you need an internship and/or want to make a change?
The Southeast Asia Resource Action Center (SEARAC) is a national organization that empowers Southeast Asian communities. They are looking for an intern to help with video editing and production during the Fall 2016 semester. All you need is a resume so contact us (ond2sg & mll3mm) if you want more details!

                       

Also, check out their #FIX96 campaign! Ever Since 1996’s Antiterrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act (AEDPA) and Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act (IIRIRA) there have been 16,000 deportations of Cambodian, Laotian, and Vietnamese Americans (many who were legal permanent residents). As Filipino Americans, it’s important for us to step in when our Southeast Asian family faces legislative corruption. So check out their social media campaign!

Tell us about the goals of UNICEF?
The goals of UNICEF are to raise funds for international and local child survival projects to increase the welfare of children and to educate and address the rights of children in the United States and abroad, while also fostering strong relationships between students and the Charlottesville community.

What do you do in UNICEF?
I am the Events Coordinator in UNICEF, so I am responsible for organizing and advertising UNICEF events, which include meetings, fundraisers, social gatherings, and volunteering opportunities. This Tuesday, September 20 at 4pm, we will be hanging peace cranes along the Whispering Wall for our End Violence Campaign. Our goals for this campaign are to raise awareness and start a conversation regarding how violence is everywhere, including our own community, not just in developing countries.

What does community service mean to you?
Community service means getting involved and improving the community in any way that you can, whether it be through fundraising, education, or just being there for support. I think it’s important that everyone take a break from their everyday lives to help others and identify themselves as an active member in their community. I believe that community service is also a great way to meet new people and foster strong relationships with those around you.

historic will be having a photo shoot on the LAWN starting at 6pm before BINGO NIGHT in Clark 108!

FIRST FAMILY TO TAKE A PICTURE WITH AT LEAST 12 FAMILY MEMBERS WILL GET 10 POINTSSSSSSSSSSSS- every other family will get 5 points each.

we will also be doing individual portraits (come get dem profpics)!! because this is a free range photo shoot, please dress up in any way that you would like to be photographed! while photos are being taken throughout the event, there will be activities on the lawn along with bonding with other oyfans!!!

afterwards we'll all head to Clark 108 to play some BINGOOOOO. there's gonna be some awesome prizes and food so be sure to come out!!

Hey there OYFA!

I hope you enjoyed yourself at Family Field Day! If your experience was so great and you wish that you could do it again, don’t fret because you can do it again at D7 Olympics!! But instead of competing against OYFA families, you will compete against other D7 schools like ODU, Tech, VCU, JMU, and more! Mark your calendar that D7 Olympics will be hosted at JMU on October 22nd.

Make sure to look out for ASU’s Not a Model Minority Campaign that begins tomorrow. It’s a great way to talk about and learn more about yourself and others around you. Here’s the Facebook link to their event page:
