Advocacy
Hello OYFA! Given all the horrible hate crimes that have taken place at UVA this past semester, read about the opportunities in which YOU can make UVA a more inclusive community!
Safe Space Training:

On November 21st from 5-7 pm, OYFA will be having Safe Space Training with the LGBTQ Center! The Safe Space network is made up of faculty, staff, and students committed to being allies to the entire LGBTQ community. We’ll be completing a two-hour training that consists of general information about the LGBTQ population and how to be an ally. At the end, participants will be given a distinctive rainbow-colored sticker that reads “I am sensitive to and supportive of lesbian, gay, bi, trans, queer, and questioning people.” These stickers can be seen all around Grounds to visibly designate safe spaces. Please contact Oanh (ond2sg) or Melissa (mll3mm) if you would like to join us!
Social Activism:

This Monday, November 7th, the Eliminate the Hate campaign will be holding a Silent Demonstration outside of Old Cabell Hall from 10:30 AM to 3 PM to stand up against the recent hate speech against members of our community. Sign up for the DEMO here and sign up for their LISTSERV here! There will also be a photo campaign and they need help with tabling and running the campaign. They are seeking volunteers from Tuesday, November 8 - Friday, November 11 so please sign up here to TABLE if you are available!
Word of the Week:

“Bumoto” (“bo” - “to” ) means “vote” as in “Don’t forget to ‘bumoto’ on election day (Tuesday)!”

With all of your help, ~CANDY WARS~ was a huge success and in case you didn’t know, Binondo was the winning family! They’ll be eating second at potluck and be getting free ice cream on top of that.

Hey OYFA! We hope you all enjoyed Culturefest! As we mentioned during the General Body Meeting, the Standardizing Filipino American Studies (SFAS) theme of the month is Culture and Traditions!! Just through this semester we’ve learned about Filipino culture and traditions, from eating halo-halo, playing patintero and agawang sulok, to learning traditional dances in Culturefest. One of the best ways to learn more about any culture is to do so in an informal, relaxed environment, so keep an eye out for future cultural chill sessions to come!
