The Philippines launches the world’s first dengue fever vaccine
Dengue fever infects 390 million people each year and kills as many as 25,000, according to the World Health Organization. Around 70% of dengue fever cases occur in Asia and is one of the world’s most common mosquito-borne viruses. It was first recognized in the 1950s during dengue epidemics in the Philippines and Thailand. More than half a century later, the Philippines’ Department of Health has launched an immunization program in highly affected areas, making it the first country where the vaccine is commercially available. This historic drug took 20 years and $1.8 billion to develop and is predicted to reduce cases in the Philippines by 24% over the next five years.

Hello OYFAmilia!

Do you have plans for this Thursday night? If not, come out to Hoo Am I to have a candid discussion about the A/APA community and our experiences with coming to terms with our identity. Also, I heard from a little bird that there may be a limited supply of homemade treats to compliment our fruitful discussion. So, Thursday, Sept 29th, 7:00 pm, location TBD because we like to keep you on your toes. Hope to see you there!

Also, here’s a wonderful picture of our Corresponding Secretary at last year’s D7 Olympics:

Wouldn’t you want to play batuhan bola, dodgeball with a pinoy twist, with Kanata? With him on our team, we’re sure to win. Just look at that face of determination. Keep your schedule free for Saturday, Oct. 22nd, so we can go to JMU and show everyone what OYFA@UVA is made of.

Your loving D7 Mom&Dad,
Dani(dgr3ce) and John(jah6vg)

Get hype for IM playoffs! Our undefeated season has led up to this moment! Watch out for times and who our evil opponent will be on the facebook page. As always, love yo faces and we hope to see you at IM practices and games!

Practice: Friday at 4pm
Games: tentatively Sundays at 7pm

Date Auction is right around the corner ,so make sure to mark your Calendars for October 6th from 6pm to 9pm! For those, who don’t know what Date Auction is, it’s pretty much a talent show where performers are bought to go on a date with the lucky bidders to ASU’s Semi- Formal on October 22nd from 10pm to 1am at Cafe Caturra. Sounds good right?! However, we NEED your help in selecting our performer who will represent OYFA ,so be sure to complete the nomination form posted on the OYFA Page if you want to see your friends (or yourself) perform! That’s it for now and hope you all have a wonderful week!

Good luck!! Also good luck with all of your exams! Fall break is almost there glgl
