Hello OYFAmily!
Thanks for coming out to Super Kamayan yesterday and rolling lumpia with us! It was a blast cooking with you all! Now onto something a bit more heavy this week...
US Politics: This Friday, President Trump “passed an executive order that halted the US refugee programme for 120 days, banned Syrian refugees, and suspended nationals from 7 Muslim-majority countries for 90 days.” He has also “ signed two executive orders Wednesday that call for building the wall and aim to deny federal funds to sanctuary cities that shield undocumented immigrants from deportation.”
Whether you agree or disagree with the passed laws, we implore you to be mindful of your words and actions as members of our UVA/OYFA community may feel unsafe because of the passed executive orders.
Besides, Filipino Americans were under the gun of immigration bans last year so let’s stand by our friends who would’ve stood by us. We are a family so let’s try our best to make everyone know that they are loved and belong. #Solidarity
Word of the Week: “pamilya” (pah-meel-ya) means “family” and family means no one gets left behind or forgotten.

Our IM Volleyball games are going to be Sundays @ 8 PM at Mem Gym! Come out and play or cheer! Also, mark your calendars for February 11th for Coffeehouse! It’s a night of performances from OYFA, VSA, and CSA members and a great night to spend cheering your buds!

- CSA at UVA: Chinafest
Saturday, February 18th 3:00 – 6:00pm
Burley Middle School
Come enjoy our annual cultural performance show, Chinafest! There will be various acts, music, and dances to celebrate the Lunar New Year, all performed by CSA members! The event is free for all with additional RAFFLE PRIZES and a FREE DINNER. Rides will be provided from Bonnycastle Circle starting from 2:30pm!
- Athletes for Equality is selling V-Equality laptop stickers for $2 each! Cash or Venmo accepted. Stop by the Alderman Scholar's Lab to pick them up on Monday, January 30th from 3-4pm! Email Anant at ad4bk@virginia.edu if you can’t make the pick-up time or have any questions. Check out the Facebook event for more details!
